First track day booked!

Booked my first track day for early september. Ive been riding 4 months and have a standard gsxr 600 K3. Any track related hints/tips? Do i need anything before i go?

its a brands hatch beginners day. cant wait.

Do i need braided brake lines? For some reason i think i do.....

Not unless your old ones are unroadworthy.

If you've only been riding a few months then don't make the mistake of going like a bat out of hell. It will end in tears.

Just gradually increase your pace as the day goes on. Your never going to break any records and no one expects you to.

Usual advice is to get faster *slowly*. Only up your pace a little bit at a time and you should be fine.

You should be fine on a beginners day, but my bit of advice from my first track day (only two weeks ago!!) is:

Go at your own pace, you are there to enjoy yourself not compete.
Smile when you feel nervous
Get an instructor if you can, I found it really helped my confidence (especially when he said that I was riding really well )

Have a bloody good time

It really improved my confidence on the road due to realising both the bike's and my limits are nowhere near reached on the road.

some handy hints from me...

1. Ride at your level, there will always be people quicker then you. ( a bit obvoiusly I know, but at the start of the day people who have done the odd trackday before will be whizzing past you, build up your confidence though-out the day)

2. Try not to lock onto the person in front off you, ride for yourself.

3. Drink Plenty of water and don't eat too much at lunch time as you won't feel like doing the after lunch session cause you'll be bloated.

4. Tyre pressures, remeber to lower them, ask the someone there or as a safe bet set them to around front 30 psi and rear 30 psi ( different people have different opinions on this, just to rember to let a little out. )

5. Take black Tape to tape up lights and your speedo.

6. And last but not least enjoy yourself, everyone will be friendly as we're all there to do the same thing.. have fun

why tape up your speedo?

So you don't keep looking at it to see how fast you are going
( try to Concentrate on the track ), with that in mind also tape your mirrors.

although dont worry to much these arn't things you have to do, I've seen people arrive on a new road bike take number plates, mirrors off etc, whilst others just turn up and go straight out.

Brands is close, Lydden's just in Kent, although further away. Lydden's a hell of a lot cheaper aswell.

I've got a trailer you can borrow if you want.

thanks for the offer of the trailer, i however dont have a tow bar etc! If i like this track day and fancy doing more i will definately invest as trailers can be picked up quite cheaply.
