Ok i passed my theory test today so ive really got my act together and im going for my test asap.

Thing is i have no money for training and am just going to take the test on the principle that i can get 4 tests for the £200 the cheapest training in my area is.

What im after from you lot then is what i should / shouldnt do on my test. Im quite a competent rider but id just like some tips ect from you guys?

Cheers in advance

Rich

Nice one Jay, that's useful to me too. I've got one more lesson Saturday after next then my big bike test the week after.

As I drive my car around, trying to practise for my test without a bike to practise on, other drivers are looking at me funny as I do my 'observations' and 'life savers'! Just shows how much less aware of traffic situations I used to be and how unaware most car drivers are...

If you look up your test centre on the DSA's website then you can see the test routes. If you wish, you could pratice the actual routes they will take you on.

Good Luck to you, you're brave to go ahead & take the test.
I'm practising for mine & I'm finding a few things hard like

Keeping the speed to the limit,

& damn U Turns.

Also I bought a new leather jacket, the collar sticks up a bit & is making life -savers hard to do! Rolling Eyes

Ha nowhere near. Its within the next 2 weeks.

Speeding id say is my worst habbit and occasionally forgetting lifesavers.

Any tips for helping this?

Rich

2 Weeks !! Good on ya Thumbs Up

As for the life savers, just tell yourself that an asshole could be trying to shoot past you just before you turn (It happens).
Just make yourself do it, it is worthwhile Wink

Look at the speedo - it'll indicate what speed you are doing and you'll be able to tell when you are over the limit Thumbs Up Laughing

Can't give any tips for lifesavers - if you forget it's your tough shit Rolling Eyes

No. It's cos you still have the throttle open Brick Wall

MY bike does 80 odd in first gear, but I can sit at 30 in 3rd or 4th no problem.

You only need to put the weight of your wrist on the throttle to sit at 30 once you are there.

PostPosted: 00:47 - 26 Jul 2006    Post subject: Lifesavers Reply with quote

I think back just a few years. I was driving down the motorway, checked my mirrors, indicated to pull out to overtake and "HOLY FREAKIN' COW!!!!" there was a traffic cop on his bike overtaking me. He crept up on me without me seeing him. Anyway, I pooped my pants (not literally), pulled over into the left lane and narrowly escaped a certain coronary failure. Ever since that day I always do lifesavers, even if I'm sure there is nothing there in the outside lane. I don't tailgate anymore either.
Personally, I find it useful to talk my way through certain manouvres. Things like "approaching parked vehicles, lifesaver right, yada yada yada.... about to pull in so lifesaver left, move over".
And for what it's worth. I reckon ones standard of safetywear could have an effect on the examiners first impression on you. Turn up in a pair of trainers, a chav jacket and a scratched helmet and I'm sure he'll be looking more closely for faults, just human nature methinks.
