I have a NSR125 and was wondering if its normal (de-restricted normal).

The Bike goes fairly quick from 1,000rpm to 6,500rpm,
Then Its got a flat spot between 6,500rpm to 8,000rpm, (goes really slow, I mean slower than slow, on the verge of not accelerating)
Then from 8,000rpm to the redline it goes like shit off a shovel,

Basically it's like having three bikes rolled into one,
Is this normal, is it due to the RC valve? Does everyone else's bike do this?

Hi

You need to remove a orange and white link attached to the junction box under the back cowl. Remove seat and you will see it.

OK, I've had a little look around at other messages and it seems that it could also be a red/white wire underneith the tank. I guess that means by the Carb. On mine the wires all hang on the Air box.

Is a link cable just a wire. Do you cut it or can you just unplug it????

Well I've spent ages disconnecting virtually every two color wire going into a black box. With no luck. Confused

Will I have to get a garage to adjust my carb? or can I do it myself?

Oli

As far as I know the early bikes (like yours) were only restricted with the exhaust and intake. If your bike is an import built in the early 90's then it would have been full power from new (so any restriction in place was put there by a dealer and nothing to do with Honda, and it could be anything).

It sound almost like the power valve is not working, and is stuck in the open position. However, this would give you not much low down power (but how that feels would depend on what you are comparing it to). A flat spot at around half peak power is normal for any fairly highly tuned bike (due to the way performance exhausts work), but normally on a 2 stroke the power valve manages to hide this flat spot

All the best

Keith

I do agree,
After reading Topic "Why is my 6th gear so shit??" I have decided that its still restricted (by half). I think it will buy a bigger bike for the money I would waste trying to remove the restriction.
