Coming to work to day, was doing about 40 in a 30, no traffic.
Coming up to the lights I took a look in the mirrors, I looked forward to see the lights changing, but the timing was all off and I rolled through just as she hit the red.
There is a traffic light camera thing there, so what’s the deal, I was marginally over….

Silimar kind of deal to speed cameras I think, 14 days for the NIP to arrive.

If they did get you it's 3 points, but I *think* the lights have to have been red for a while before the cameras are activated. Could be wrong, and it all depends how 'marginally' you were over.

They have flasher units dont they? Did it flash?

My experience is that they are active before the red comes on (just before). I have also noticed that they dont often pick up bikes? Maybe not as sensitive as regular Gatso's.

I've done the same in a car and ended up with a £60 fine and 3 points on my licence. Keep you fingers crossed and hope it didn't pick up your bike.

In general if I see a Traffic light camera i'll tend to get ready to stop incase they do go red.

i have never seenthe lights flash though liek a camara. we dont even have speed camaras here ffs.

Traffic light camera's are activated by sensors embedded into the road.

If you look carefully you'll see a rectangular strip about 1-2 metres in front and one half a metre past the white 'stop' line'. I suspect the have the same failings as the traffic lights that use the induction loop method and they sometimes have difficulty picking up bikes.

If you know you've been caught(I know you don't mate), i'e you see tha flash etc etc etc, get yourself down the nearest police station and tell them, ask what you can do etc etc etc and they will offer you a driver improvment day thing, instead of the points.
yeah you have to pay for the training, but no points.
I know for a fact this worked last year, no sure if they have changed anything since then.

As for killa's question, depends what sort of camera it was.

Traffic Light Speed Cameras
Traffic light cameras are triggered either by using ground loops that are cut into road surface or radar technology. When using loops, as the traffic lights turn red the system becomes active, any vehicle passing over the sensor in the road after this time is then photographed. Radar based traffic light cameras work in the same manner as fixed Gatso speed cameras.

A news story that appeared in the Daily Mail newspaper reported that the Home Office plan to turn over 1,000 traffic light cameras into speed cameras. "More than 1,000 traffic-cameras used to catch drivers jumping red lights are to converted so they can also trap speeders".

The traffic light camera was originally used to measure red light offences. Nowadays the camera can also be used in combination with speed measurement, similar to that of a Gatso speed camera. So you could end with a speeding offence as well as a traffic light offence, if you go through a red light camera!

Points and Penalties

Being prosecuted in the UK by a traffic light camera can result in a minimum of 3 penalty points and a £60 fine. This fine amount is currently under review by the government and may increase in near future.

Thinking about turning them into speed cameras. That would really fcuk your license up, 3+ points for the red, 3+ for opening the throttle to try and beat the aforementioned red.

I have got away with exactly this offence as there was a car that was tailgating me and I couldn't brake hard, officer. Seriously, admit it and give mitigating circumstances, could save your arse.

As far as i know there aren't any of these traffic light cameras in Lincolnshire yet, i only see them when i go to Nottingham where they're everywherem, so i'm reading this thread with interest

Been through them many times, as have my friends, even gone through one at 3Am, as i was sat there for 3 mins, dont think it picked the bike up, so i just slowly went through (could see round the corner so it was 'safe')

I guess there different for different areas.

i have seen someone go through one near me.

and it had been on for red for less than a second when it flashed

he had been waiting behind a car that was turning right and as he set off it flashed.

there was bugger all he could of done which is unfair.
