Thats very useful I'm just wondering how long does the offence stay on your license is it 4 years?

Which is annoying as most insurance companies ask you have any offences in the last five years.

I think most points last 3 years, drink driving lasts on your license for 10 years even though the points are gone i believe.

Just to let you know new laws have come into place allowing police to issue fixed penalty tickets with 6 points and a £200 fine if they find you using a vehicle without insurance. Once they have done this they will seize your vehicle.
If you have no tax they can issue you with a £60 fine and could also seize your vehicle for this and they can also give you a £60 and 3 points for driving otherwise than in accordance with your license (but only 1 lot of points per stop).

One stop could cost you £320 and 6 points and your bike Shocked if your stupid enouth to ride without docs.

All forces have the powers to do this but not all are using them yet.

And would cost the police a hell of a lot more if they impounded my bike for me not carrying my docs.

I think VTR meant 'without' as in without at all. Not nesaccarily carrying on the bike.

TBH I think it's rarely you have to produce them now anyway. Insurance Tax and MOT can all be checked electronically. Only if some nugget hasn't entered your details correctly, then you may have to produce.

On a different point, some people are still saying to me you can get 3 points for a small unreadable plate. I was always under the impession it was a £30 spot fine??? Confused

I would get him to change it to something a little bigger as next time they may 'Q' plate it, rendering his bike worthless. Shocked

Question Question Question

They can remove the existing licence plate and issue a Q registration. These are normally reserved for home build vehicles that have been SVA tested. Q plate vehicles are worth the square root of feck all because they are almost all either write-offs or home builds.

Cheers

After you've been caught a few times the police will have had enough and can ask the DVLA to Q designate your bike. You can't just keep getting away with a £30 fine for ever you know Wink

Q is a letter not used in the mainstream registration alphabet as it's reserved for a specific plate called a Q plate.

To quote from the DVLA:

Quote:
These are a very useful consumer protection aid.

A 'Q' number is a clear indicator to a prospective purchaser that the age or identity of a vehicle is unknown. The vehicle may be rebuilt from parts, some or all of which may not be new. This also applies to vehicles imported without supporting evidence to identify the vehicles age.

Once a vehicle (that is not a custom trike or sim) is Q plated, it's worthless. To a would be law breaker the Q plate has an additional feature of being a good deterrent. One the police are apparently starting to realise in the light of the recent increase in number plate fraud. (congestion charge plate swapping, removing plates to speed though cameras etc)

Didn't somebody once say Kickstart maybe that there are places that will acertain the age of a particular bike for £35 and hence remove its Q plate status and give you some sort of certificate to tell you what year it is?.

How the fuck can the police give you a Q plate? thats ridiculous. Its also not the intended purpose of a Q plate. Im getting really tired of the powers that be in this country. Only a few weeks ago i was told by a copper (who had stopped me for driving over the top of painted roundabouts when no other traffic was there !?!?! which i didnt think was a problem but obviously is) that it was an offence not to carry all your documents at all times, I argued with him and said that in the UK you dont have to carry any documents at any time, so he gave me a producer and said I was being cheeky. arh man, that's ridiculous! that's why they have the seven days to take them to a police station rule! seriously, a lot of the time I think it depends on the cop, his views, and the type of day he's had. I know that sucks, but it's never goin to change really. Petty though it may seem...
