Right i am a bit confused i always thought if you wanted a big bike you had two chioces:

A) Passed DAS if over 21
B) Pass normal test right for like 2-3 yrs then you get your full license.

Is this right? If not what are the rules...

I've always thought if someone has an accident on their *restricted* bike, wouldn't the insurance test the bike in the event of a claim?

I guess they would check everything if it meant a payout could be avoided...

If it was a big claim where the rider caused the accident by using too much power, then they may well do.
However not only is this very rare, the probability is the rider would have a lot more to worry about as well.

If the bike was smashed and damage was to the engine and/or radiator then it would cost money to put back together to check the HP. The same with getting someone to take it apart to check for a restrictor kit, assuming they'd know what to look for.

As you pointed out, insurance companies don't like paying out money, so IMO they're unlikely to spend even a comparitive little to save them a bit more.

As for what you can ride and when the attached pdf may be useful.
