Just wondering about overtaking/filtering through zigzag lines. Isn't that supposed to be illegal and you can get points from it?

Sometimes I see police riders do it as well so that makes me wonder even more.

I've seen police cars doing what must have been 35-40mph in 30 zones, without any lights/siren. It just goes to show that we all break the rules in some way, whoever we are.

On a ped crossing with red/flashing/amber lights, you can filter up to, but not pass, the first car. When green, you can filter as normal.

On a zebra crossing, you can again filter up to the first car, but may not pass it until it has cleared the crossing.*

always just depends on what kind pull you. i filter if its possible to do so regardless of what lines are there + you have to go that little bit more wider cause of SO many dickheads who just decide to swerve out abit to look down the road OR some wanting to do a U-turn cause they cant sit there no more! OR EVEN the nob heads who walk in between the cars to cross & forget to look on the assumption a bike might be coming down Mad

In which case. it's perfectly legal to run them down. Caveat pedestriatii I believe is the legal term.

Not sure what you mean by 'zigzag lines' - the ones on the side of the road at ped crossings:
You can filter past stationary cars but you aren't suposed to pass the car at the front.

Or maybe you mean hatched or chevron markings dividing lanes or oncoming traffic?
These you may not enter if the outline is a solid line.
Exceptions include overtaking stationary or very slow vehicles.
If the outline of the hatched area is broken, you may enter & use for overtaking, but with caution - these areas are there for good reason e.g. protecting right turning traffic.

If you have any sort of accident while crossing hatched areas you would need to prove that you had every reason to assume no danger was likely.

I wouldn't risk going around the outside of the road bollard personally, although, if it has no keep left arrow or solid line across it i can't of a good reason not too Confused You stumped me there 'LUXY'

As for Chevrons and ZigZags then 'DOGGONE' got it right. Thumbs Up

What pisses me off about Zig-Zag lines at Pedestrian crossing are the 70 year old twats that insist on parking on them, when it is completely illegal and for good reason.

Definitely illegal. They usually have Keep Left bollards planted on them.

If a copper sees you driving round the outside of a traffic island, they will slap you with six points for driving without due care and attention faster than you can blink. They might even be able to make a case for dangerous driving.

I got 12 books thrown at me for riding around a bollard once, so I don't do it anymore, but on the way into the city every morning, the majority of other riders do it.

As said above be carefull!! big fine and points if caught doing it. Been tempted to do it myself but always wait for the traffic to move along slightly.
