Dont do more than your comfortable with.. you will get tired before the scooter does (all normal fluid topups presumed) bit off more than your ready for you'll have trouble, at best it wont be fun!
Do your first bit of a ride in daylight, when its not raining and not right into he busyest part of town at rush hour (not that thats what i did or anything )
Take an hour on a car park or quiet road or two to get familiar with your controlls, the bikes controlls, where the horn e.t.c. is and take it easy..
Good luck tomorrow, very simple advice, whever they tell you to do, do it! ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

The day you pass your CBT is probably the most dangerous time for you to be out and about, especially taking on quite a large trip.
Your out on the road on your own, you dont have the instructor covering your ass any more and you will be under the assumption that you are as good as you need to be to ride on the road.
Yeah youve completed your CBT, but CBT is very basic and you need to be aware, the day i completed both my CBT and my full test, my keys were hidden so that i didnt go racing off etc thinking i was god because i had passed
68 Miles doesnt sound a lot, but it can be quite tiring, especialy for a first time rider.
Take it steady if you do decide to go anywhere, but my advice would be to gain some experience just poodling around first, maybe try a trip out to the next town / city or something 10-20miles away first. Just get used to being out on your own and having to do everything yourself.

IMO dont do it Louise, not on the day you have only just learnt to ride. I learnt last year and still find the thought of riding on the mainland a bit daunting! Just take your time, dont put yourself into dangerous situations that you may not be able to handle just yet ____________________ Live on the Isle of Wight and ride a CBR600F |

My first non-supervised ride was only 5 miles because I had started my bike up so much before I could ride it that I ran out of petrol on my first ride. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. The first couple of rides I did were around 15-20 miles and my hands, wrists and back were killing me, over 60 would have meant suicide
Build up the distance and the confidence will grow as well ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Hey.
The same day I passed my test I stayed out on my bike for 5 hours and didnt come back till 1am!
But it really does knock the shit out off you, your first couple of rides that is. Not only is it pretty pysical riding at that distance but due to concentrating so much ( espcially when your new to the road ) it can give you a bad headache
Its up to you though, Just rember that im sure youll get lots of other oppertunitys to go out on long rides |

My first rides out were about 25 miles there and back again. Then it was a 40 mile round trip to work and back everyday. Did 400 miles a few weekends ago and my daily lazy trip to work is 700 yards from garage to bike shelter outside the office. So, so lazy... .
Will be cycling (gotta get healthy) from next week with weekend warrior rides with Me and Mrs. K two up instead...

I potted around for a good hour or so today. Doing junctions, lights, seafront and it felt good.
I will take your advice and think I will leave it. I have a nice trip to the next town in a few days. 20ish miles.
Southlondoner I drove in London and know what you mean, but the A3 and one road from brighton dosnt hit any bad main roads. Wouldnt dream of going central for a while |

My 1st unsupervised ride was on a CG125 ... after CBT and the 1st two lessons of my DAS course...
Cardiff to Casell Bay, Swansea (48 miles each way according to AA Route Planner)
and I was completely knackered at the end of it!!
I also did Cardiff to Brecon a few days later (another 30+ miles each way) although my riding was starting to feel a little more relaxed.
Personally I wouldn't recommend going too far too soon after CBT, but obviously you'd know your local road conditions better that I do
Good luck, and be safe ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

My first solo ride was from Abingdon (near Oxford) to Nottingham (on a CG125), about 115miles. I'd had about 15 lessons and a failed DAS test behind me at that point, though.
It was surprisingly easy (even though I got lost a few times ). It's really up to you to make a sensible choice (after the CBT) of whether you feel up to it; the distance is almost irrelevant at this point. If you do go ahead, plan for a 2.5 hour trip, a break half way through, get printed directions and a map, and take a bottle of water, and fill your tank before it's half empty -- just in case you forget. ____________________ CG125 (stolen->recovered!) || Wars do not decide who's right, only who's left. |
