Anyone dabble in a bit of fishing?

Basically i want to start it all up again, but ive no idea what type of gear to go for.

I dont really want to do sea fishing, just general fish for anything.
So what type of gear do i go for, just everyday fishing?

And once ive mastered that will probably go and do a bit of carping.

There are a couple of man made ponds (pretty big ie half football pictch sized x3 pools) in Bradley fold have to pay to use them though,

go BC ! , get a sharp stick and stand very still in the water.

I started with a good all round match rod and small reel, I also decided to start with what sometimes seems to be the forgotton art of float fishing.

My thinking is keep it simple..

Last time I visited My local tackle shop they had basic 10ft match rods for around £12 and a cheap reel for about £15.00 including cursory floats, weights disgorgers expect to fork out around £30-£35

I'd advise you start with pre tied Hooks to nylon size 16 barbless (Animals are a good quality, cost effective brand).

I use something not unlike this. Fish don't really care how much you've spent on a rod or reel, I've found.

Spot on, theres an old saying "it's not the tackle that catchs the fish, it's the technique"

Although you might experience less tangles and a mores sensitive bite with a cheap match rod and reel, the telscopic stuff is fine for travelling but the reels and line supplied tend to be unsuitable

A bog standard light spinning rod will do the job. If you get one that is about 10ft that'll cast maybe 10-30g, you'll cover most eventualities. Suitable for general course fishing, ledgering, spinning for game fish and a bit of light sea fishing.

I bought my mate a shakespere 'mentor' telescopic rod for his birthday, a good all rounder rod, maybe a tad heavy for small course fish but this isn't an issue if you are using a float.

My favourite rod is an old fibreglass spinning rod my Dad bought me from woolworths about 24 years ago though.

I just got a 'baitrunner' spinning reel off ebay for £20. This will do a bit of everything too and unlike normal fixed spool reels you can leave it on 'free spool' so you don't have to sit and hold it all the time.

I recently treated myself to an ultra-compact shimano telescopic rod. Very sexy 9ft spinner, collapses to 30cm long and casts 30g. It has a very good action but comes down small enough to fit in my tank bag. A bit more expensive than you would want to be spending initially though.

That said. I used to go fishing with a 2-piece, 12 foot fly rod on my 125. Used to sling it diagonally across my back with an old bootlace.

I do Beach casting for mackeral off the coast of West Bay and Lyme Regis, I got a 12ft 2 peice rod, with shock leader.

I don't catch that much fish, but I don't think there is anything better than sitting on a seat on the beach with a fire lit on the beach at 5AM with the sun rising and you don't need a licence. Smile

And Itchy, Golf clubs im looking for around £200, full set, nice set of woods with fluffy covers. about 200 golf balls and a Stand bag, although i do have a trolley as well.

Let me know if you want them, and can come have a look at um.
