regardless of wether or you can actual run a petrol engine on water (which you can't the laws of thermo dynamics tell us that), you would still have to pay fuel duty on the water you "burned" in your engine as you would be using it as a road fuel and as such the tax man would take his cut.

the same applys to people running diesels on vegatable oil (which is a fairly straight forward conversion, mostly just uprated fuel pumps and pre-heaters in the fuel line)

was he also selling snake oil and eternal youth tablets Wink

It can actually work , but not as described ,ie putting water into the fuel tank.

Using sea water batteries , salt water magnesium plates to power an electrical bike , much like used on oil platforms or emergency power units on life boats or what not.

Which is fine for say ships , but bad for say cars as with the 6 stroke engine requires you to carry lots of water around which is heavy.

EDIT

many sea water batteries are still prototypes.

yup veg oil into diesel engines was killed last year when Gordon Brown quietly put up the tax on it so that it is more expensive than proper refined diesel, hes gotta take his cut , unlike places like sweden and Germany where SVO fuel tax is 0%.

basicly the magnessium and water forms Magnessium Hydroxide and Hydrogen and it is the hydrogen that is collected and burned.

the magnessium plates will of courses get used up in this reaction and will need replacing and i dont think magnesium is very cheap either Thumbs Down

you then must take into account all the fossil fuels that have been used in the mining, transportion of ore and the smelting to get your magnessium plates Thumbs Down

probably best we stick with good old petrol until the ethanol fuels get properly developed (not just some petrol ethanol blend they've got at the moment)

You mean I can't convert my bike to run on water for around £100?

yup I know this , this is what killed my initial prototype , I did find a way to get cheap mg though you could get 3 cubic metre erm cubes of the stuff shipped from China making plates dirt cheap, cept you had to buy at least 10 which would have meant shelling out on 50K , though I'd not have to buy fuel for the next 25 years.

I've got the PDF of how to do it if anyone wants it. It was up for download on here a few months back.

Trouble is it involves me potentially ruining a MOT'd car just to see if the second law of thermodynamics is true or not! Laughing

I don't really have the time or the space.

Would be more tempting to try it with an old C90 or something...

Hmm. The Ultimate commuter? A C90 that runs on water? Cool Cool Cool

I thought ceramic engines have been made as prototypes but they found that creating a ceramic engine was impossible outside laboratory conditions, and lab conditions were needed in order to create a 'perfect' piece of ceramic, because any imperfections lead to cracks and engine failure.

i think that honda where running ceramic engines in there turbo'd F1 cars in the 80's and 90's.

might just have been the turbos that were ceramic not sure but F1 is at least a step out of the lab

edit

just read the pdf file about stepping on the gas peddle to release more vapour so cars goes faster Rolling Eyes

this example of a water based fuel really does break the laws of thermo dynamics.

the energy needed to split a water molecule in to hydrogen and oxygen is massive so yes you run this set up but the reaction chamber couldn't be powered by the cars own electrical system beening charged by the engine running on hydrogen produced from same reaction chamber Rolling Eyes tiss perpetual motion and ain't ever gonna happen. sorry chaps

Yeah, lets just hope that they get fusion reactors to work then we will have cheap power for ever and get cars to run on hydrogen (proper engines no battery crap) and keep all petrol for bikes! oh and invent a special machine that makes petrol last forever! but on for bikes its special "bike only petrol" its hates for than 2 wheels!
