 |
|
My son broke down on a slip road on the M1, in the middle of the night the other night. He put on his hazards then walked home and just abandoned his car
He decided to go back for his car at around 10 the next morning. Of course, it had been towed away to a garage and the incident logged by the police.
So, is it an offence to leave your vehicle on the slip road or are you supposed to stay with the vehicle. Should we expect contact from the police or not? |

It be illegal to stop on the motorway so I reckon it be illegal to stop and leave the car there over night.
He should call them ASAP as where ever it got towed away to will be charging a (expensive) storage fee. |

Yep.
Also, imagine it happened to be outside a building or site of importance and that the car might've been percieved as a terrorist threat. |

I suppose an important point is where on the sliproad. If he was the right side of the "motorway regulations" sign, probably just a parking offence. The wrong side and I imagine they could cook up something more serious.
He should have reported it to the police if he had to stop on the motorway.
If he was before this sign, he was just illegally parked

I think your car needs to be attended if you break down on the motorway. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |
