My first semi big ride

Past few days just been nipping around town doing a few miles hear and there.
Tonight I had to pop to Gosport to pick up some boots. I used to live there, and only 12 miles each way. 8pm so I thought it be good for me and try the roads and more corners.
Got to Gosport, Got lost Embarassed

Left Gosport (still without boots) got lost again. Returned to Gosport to meet this person else where.
Everything was fine, returned home - So I thought. Completly missed my turning and ended up heading towards Lea - On - The - Solent and then Southampton!! I 'U' turned, found my way back to a place I knew and started again to go home.
I again missed my turning, The sign post wasnt there (Or it was very well back from the turn off) and ended up bombing it up the M275 to try and get off it.
So a 24 mile trip was around 35 maybe 40 ish miles.
All good fun - Maybe get a Sat Nav huh Very Happy

It's funny... when you're getting used to driving something new, you (or at least I) can reach difficulties in navigating. This happened to me with the car, even with 21 years' local road knowledge! (3 of which as a rider).

sometimes it's good to try out loads of different routes to familiarise yourself with the area. I've had my ZX6R Ninja a month now and don't know the roads in my area at all, as I'm at Uni now.

I find it cool to just drive somewhere that you have no idea where it is, and then try and find your way back using another route. You'll often find interesting back roads and short cuts that take you to other places you know. Repeat process and you build up a good background knowledge without even looking at a map! Very Happy

i hardly get really lost lost. Just use a bit of feeling, look at the sun and hills and you'll get there.

Depends also where you ride though, since there's only one road in north scotland you'll be less likely to get lost there than in central london.
