Not often I get something prompts me to recommend somebody but after looking a zillion helmets in a zillion bike shops with stupid price tags got one of ebay ( and yes it new Rolling Eyes )

Was slightly reserved about buying a helmet without seeing it but it arrived today and it really is such good quality and so so comfortable. I paid well over 100 for my last one and ok this one doesnt have a double glazed visor (god send btw) but the make, materials and details on it are top class and it cost me under £30.

Think this should be a link to the sellers page
https://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQfrppZ25QQfrtsZ0QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsassZspeedawayQ5fmotorcycles

but if that don't work this is an item
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/G-MAC-SPEED-HELMET-ACU-GOLD-YELLOW-SILVER-BLACK_W0QQitemZ220010981752QQihZ012QQcategoryZ72278QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The picture in this really does not do it justice !

Mines not G-Mac, but a Nitro Racing Helmet ...

They're ACU Gold Stickered and was £30 at Oulton Park BSB, the N600V i think. Made of Fibreglass i beleive with some c/f and with a Double-D ring Fastener (only one allowed for Racing) and I'm well chuffed with it.

Perfect fit, nice and airy with the vents, ok, the visor isn't anything to be admired, but it does its job perfectly so no quibbles.

I beleive that you can get some top Quality Helmets for cheap and some of Nitros £200 Helmets have beaten some £400-£600 helmets in a test a magazine did (not sure which one it was) ...

**EDIT:**

ive got a nitro n810vx areo tech it must be good with a name like that!

na seriusly i paid £120 for it and i think its spot on for the money, the air vents feel abit cheap but they do their job very well, its a little bit on the loud side after 80mph but not to bad, the visor is strong ie u can have it fully open at 80+ and it wont blow off fits well feels safe, and i got a black visor with it so it looks cool Smile

"EDIT"

I retract my earlier statement, just spent a little time reading on the net and im more
confused than when i started regarding quality of helmets from £1 to the £1000 mark!

Anyone have any decent reading regarding helmets and their safety, quality and such...

How much is your head worth? I'll be very happy to sell you a £10,000 helmet if it'll make you feel good about yourself. PM me for the address to send your cheque to.

The price of an item does not always indicate its quality. The £30 item mentioned is ACU gold rated and meets European safety regulations.

As far as i am aware as long as a helmet has the correct certification and
meets meets safety regulations then it price shouldnt really have a bearing?

Although, i do understand the saying "you get what you pay for" that isnt always the case...

Where its true that price doesnt always guarantee quality I do believe that 30 quid for a helmet is a risky venture. Ive just glanced through the RiDE top ten tested helmets and to be fair there is one in there that retails at 50 quid. My first helmet cost me 250 quid and it was rubbish (thanks AGV Mad ) and failed half of the tests in the same magazine. My current lid is a shoei XR1000, they start at 200 quid and are very highly reccomended. You can pay up to a hundred quid extra for a paint scheme if you wish. Suppose thats my point really, for that thirty quid you would be struggling to buy the basic materials required, unassembled. Then you have to pay for them to be put together and a nice paint job on top. How much do each of those cost, then take into account design and testing. All in all a very expensive venture. How much of that cost has went into assuring the helmet passed the safety tests? I bet the bare minimum so it scraped through, whereas other more expensive helmets are likely to put more cash into making sure it passes by a mile. Like vin diesel said 'Winning is winning, no matter whether its by an inch or by a mile', fair do in a race but eff that for a philososphy when your head is bouncing down the road. Laughing

I got this one for about £40 the only trouble with it is the visor sometimes flips up a bit when i do a lifesaver on the motorway, the visor flips back down as soon as i face forwards again. Its just that i dont think this would happen with a more expensive lid.

after seeing the pic of the nitro helmet saw that all the workings design etc are all the same, did a web search and found this.

G-MAC motorcycle crash helmets are made & distributed by the same companies responsible for Nitro & OGK helmets. We now have in stock the G-MAC Radar & G-MAC Speed motorcycle crash helmets. Both these helmets offer a high level of rider protection & are approved to the latest ECER22-05 & ACU Gold standards. The G-MAC Radar helmet is now available for £54.99 (RRP £119.99) & the G-MAC Speed helmet is available for £39.99

That ebay seller is listing g-mac at a start price of £15

I got a HJC ac/11 for £100 half price. which is a RiDE reccomended equal too the shoei winner of the test.

I took a sledgehammer to my friends old one after he crashed in it and it survived a very hefty crack with the hammer.

I would like to do the same with a £30 helmet but I imagine It would not withstand that sort of attack.

Its not just the fact that its £30...

Its also got a lot to do with the fact its from eBay, you cant realy know whats happened to it etc...

A bit like the helmets Aldi were selling - yeah they have the gold stamp, but whats to say the big boxes they arrived in havent been slung about in the warehouse before reaching the shop floor, or been dropped and thrown before they are put in the big shelf for people to buy.

Also my mate had bought one of these helmets off ebay, i wasnt convinced by it at all, but he was confident. 3 months down the line and all the plastic liner is falling out (the seal around the visor), the vents have litterally dropped off...

I would rather spend > £70 on a helmet, just for the peice of mind.

Same goes for any helmet from any shop.

No not realy, you build up a trust with certain shops you go into i think.

Also if you go into a large shop like Hein Gericke or Inifinity - they understand what a helmet is for and how fragile they are, dont expect they would be treating stock with the same manner as some spotty scrote from Aldi.

Also if someone brings back a helmet to aldi because its damaged - "Ok, no problems, pick another" its only £20. If someone brings back a £200 helmet from Hein Gericke because its damaged due to bad handling, its going to be a bit more serious.

How do you think it got to the Hein Gericke shop from Bulgaria or where ever it was made? It has no doubt been slung in the back of several vans/lorries, and passed through possibly over a dozen hands. Only then after all that, will the shop be able to take proper care of it. Wink
