Could you recommend a scoot that meets these specifications?

Basically, have my full lisence and an RS125 to sell. With the money I get from that I want to buy something I can use as a commuter, to and from uni in all weather. Not interested in a CG as I'll get soaked if it rains.

Looked at these both, the 200 4t the best of the gileras? Is the pantheon not better than the dylan?

Dont know what DHOC is but for big single scooters:

Gilera Nexus 500
Piaggio X9 500/250
Piaggio X8 500/250
Yamaha Tmax 500

There are many more!

From my limited experience of them, a scooter doesn't offer much more weather protection than a CG or similar, especially for slower stuff.

The biggest thing 'against' a cg, I'd say, is the slim front tyre, which means water gets sprayed up towards the riders legs.

DOHC is Double OverHead Cam. Not sure why he wants this particularly.

Personally, I'd go for something like a dullville or even find a cb350 with an aftermarket fairing or similar, but then I don't like scooters.

DOHC not really necessary I guess, a 4 valve motor would be good though. I am not in need of a maxi scooter, I used to have an SR 50 and the fact that it protects to above your legs meant that only in the worst weather did you get particularly damp (provided you had a decent jacket on). I passed my test riding GS125s and CG125s and got soaked riding the GS one day.

I am quite attracted to the ZZR250, decent fairing, good reviews of the bike and its motor etc but all of my riding will be intra-urban in Sheffield where I have found many of the roads too narrow to filter, even on a 50. Furthermore, storage space on a scoot is much greater and this is a necessity for me (food shopping). I am aware that you are not a fan of scoots G, but I cannot see how a bike is favourable in this scenario. Perhaps a supermotard would be better suited to filtering through traffic and I have toyed with the idea, but a scoot offers good weather protection for its width, good storage and good low-speed manuerverability.

A bike is more fun though...what about putting a top box and shopping basket on an NSR?

Honda innova 125.

An updated C90 so you get a 125cc sohc engine with a 4-speed semi-automatic gearbox, proper footpegs, back brake in the right place but the weather protection of a stepthrough.

The cub 90 was widely regarded as the best urban commuter motorcycle of its time (which was a hell of a long time), the Innova is more of the same with better suspension, modern brakes and a bigger engine.

If your looking for a new 125. then i think one of the most important things to have is a full 15bhp engine, and the lightest weight machine for it to pull around!

The MZ 125's seem to be good in this respect, The Honda and Yamaha four strokes are not however!

I had a Piaggio X9 125. 4 valve like you want. Started first time and never let me down. Was much better than a bike in the crap weather. Had linked brakes too and was very stable on the wet. Chunky tyres, massive screen, quite wide and had a decent presence on the road Thumbs Up

I commute on a Vespa PX125, its a little cooler the an auto scooter (well in some peoples eyes Smile )Has the rear brake in the right place and the gears give you something to do while your waiting for it to get up to speed Razz . It offers pretty good weather protection as the front of it is shaped like a brick.
Not so good when it come to storage space though, theres only a little glove box and no under seat space at all.

Was looking at a Honda Forza/Reflex/Jazz 250 today but I don't think they retail in the UK.

That aside I think the Piaggio X9 250 would suit my needs, any opinions?
