Always take it out. It's much easier to get everything sorted by them than having to do it all yourself as otherwise the insurance company will hand the case over to you and that will involve a lot of ringing around with no weight behind your voice.

Also imagine if you were going around a roundabout and a car pulls out. You slam on the brakes, the front locks and down you go BEFORE you actually hit the car. The driver of that car could quite easily say that as you fell over before you hit them it can't have been their fault.

Thankfully this is easily overcome... by a lawyer who has no choice but to help you out.... so take out the legal!

no win no fee is a lie, what happens is the opposing lawyer gives you a bill if you lose,

whichi can be quite substantial.

without legal protection as said a bazillion times before your insurance cocmpany will roll over and play dead on accidents that are not your fault though of course there are alternatives some people meantioned.

Yes. I work for an insurance company, the amount of people I see screwed by an accident coz they didnt have legal cover is unreal. The no-win-no-fee companies are very fussy about who they take on, and chances are, unless its an open shut case they probably wont accept it. Legal cover is usually about 20 quid for a years cover at £50k, so to go without is quite often false economy.

I've taken legal cover this time around as it didn't change the price of the policy on my CB-1.

Do remember though you may be covered under your home insurance policy for legal representation, this was very useful when I had a cyclist jump a red light and put a nice big dent in my 2 week old car.

Absofuckinglutely take it out!!! I didnt on my £100 Fiesta because the insurance was going to be more than the car was worth a year with it.

Now some bitch hit us head on in january and the insurance company wont do anything on my behalf regarding personal claims, where as if I had took it out I would have legal reprasentation paid by them.

But its not all bad, you can take out Post accident insurance that will cover all your legal costs if you lose. Its more fiddly but has to be done if you need representation.

Il always take the cover in the future, its no fun learning the hard way! Evil or Very Mad

Personally, I'd much rather go with a solicitor who's willing to take a case on because they think it'll win. If they're only taking you on because they don't have any choice then that doesn't give you very much confidence in their work. You can either let it all be sorted by your insurance company and their solicitors, or you could go yourself to specialist ones who're much better and so your claim will do better.

IMO if there aren't any no win no fee solicitors willing to take your case on then that's a fair indication you're wasting your time, it's not as if there's a shortage of them.

I echo jackyboy.

I worked for the UK's largest car insurer for over 2 years (RBS Group). You would be a fool in my opinion to take out cover without legal protection. Should be less than £30 (normally £20 or so) for a year. Definately worth it.

Yup.

Legal cover has been an absolute blessing after both my crashes.

Both would have been bloody complicated to sort out, it was great to have a lawer to do it all for me.

Well worth it.

Yep, have always had legal cover and it helped me out when i was a wee teenager after ploughing into the side of a Skoda Felicia on my RXS100.

I got £3000 for my injuries and that paid for my next bike as well as clearing my debts.

That must have been 12 years ago now, i've not needed it since, but you never know Neutral

I always take it as it seems good value to get things sorted quickly. I would however, employ a specialist if I felt it was warranted, for example in a large personal injury case.

Definitely....my legal protection got me over £1,000 in uninsured losses when I was knocked off last year. The other insurance company 'challenged' my claim, based on her lies and my solicitor challenged, went to court on my behalf and as a result I have kept my no claims bonus and won the damages.

Incorrect. My insurance legal cover wouldnt do a thing for me when I was run into by a hit and run driver even though I knew who it was. I havent taken it out since.

I wouldnt bother with it.
Always claim through Angel Direct, they are wicked and there is none of this no win no fee bollox, you pay one small fee to them (in 1998 it was £10) and they sort out everything else for you... when I won my case I got every single penny I was awarded in court.

Angel basically recover costs from the second parties insurance company for the court, the solicitor the barrister, everything.

They are superb for bikers. I'd recommend them without a doubt.

Forget what mag it was in, but there was a news article about how insurance companies often make more money from 'selling on' legal claims than they did from selling insurance it's self.

While there are some cases where I presume it can offer value over a no-win, no-fee solictor, I reckon a lot of cases would be handled just as well or better with one.

What if you lose.....Then you will have to pay costs! Legal cover is for things like that not just for a solicitor, it covers all your legal expenses.

The no win no fee solicitors will only take cases on if they are 100% sure they will win and then they are only in it for the money.

As I have said in my post above you can get Post accident insurance that covers the sonlicitors costs and a Propper one will take on a case if you direct him /her to.

I thought I would never need it so never took it out. Now I know I wont be walking let alone riding my bike or driving a car for 12months at least and a long court battle ahead i wish I had took it out.

Don't take it out if you don't want to but you may regret it if something happens.

No. Get a quote from ebikeinsurance. You'll get an email from them that includes

Quote:
As a thank you for trying us, we are pleased to offer you Free Legal Expenses Cover for the next year. This cover typically costs 20-25 pounds if taken out through a broker. If you buy your policy from eBike, the legal protection is provided free of charge and will arrive with your policy documents. Click the link below to return to the eBike site: Take Up Quote If, however, you decide to buy your bike insurance elsewhere click the link below to download your free legal expense schedule: * Take Up Free Legal Expenses Policy The policy is underwritten by DAS Legal Expenses Ltd, the UK and Europe's largest legal expense insurance provider, and gives you 50,000 pounds of cover for legal representation. The policy wording is available through clicking the above link. Remember this policy relates to you and all the vehicles you own not just bikes, so it could save you a packet if you buy more than one legal expense product from your broker. Don't forget - delete this cover from your broker's renewal notice and save yourself the charge they will make.

Exactly the cover you get with a paid for policy. See here for the details of cover.
