What would you do if you saw someone fondling your bike...

Ok, inspired by this thread ...

What would you do, if you came round the corner to see someone holding your bike, leaning at an angle half way between the floor and upright...

Just interested to know if the people that are saying "yeah i would pick it up" would be suspicious about someone picking up their bike, wondering if they infact were actually trying to steal it...

Personally, even though i said in the other thread that i would more than likely try and raise the bike myself, if i came round a corner to see my bike being lifted in such a way by a stranger, i would be running over asap shouting god knows what at the guy until he / she explained what had happened...

Probably try to find something big and heavy.
Then wander over and say 'nice bike you got there mate' and see what they say. Of course if they say "yea, just got it" or similar, I'd see where it would lead as I got ready to hit them Smile

Years ago I was at the monarch in Camden seeing a few bands. I came out started my bike and let it warm up while I put my gear.

As I got kitted up some twat decided to grab the throttle and rev it. He got a bit upset as I started to hit him. In fact he called for help so the bouncers came round and asked what the score was. He told them, they hit him and invited me back in for another pint.

I guess it depends who it was. If it was a middle aged guy in suit i'd act differently to if it was a baseball cap wearing teenager.

I think i'd 'Run over and help lift the bike back up before asking politely what the deal was' because if they were up to anything naughty and realised they had been tumbled they might just drop the bike and leg it, lets get the bike safe first, then sort out the retribution Evil or Very Mad

right yes my initial reaction would be to go mental but i would think "hold on he my be fixing it up after someon else doing it" but he should knoe better as he could get the blame.

I'd wait until they had the bike back up and see what they then do. If they walk off, then fine. If they start to swing their leg over, they'll get a helmet in the mush.

My inititial thoughts would be someone is trying to steal my bike, but i wouldn't react that way, i'd calmly walk over and ask them what they're doing.

If they were picking it up i'd thank them, if not i hope i'd have the presence of mind to have my mobile in my hand ready to call the police and have the presence of mind to hold an image of the theif in my mind so that i can describe them to the police.

Would depend on the situation, but i would probably find out what happened before going crazy. If it was obvious they were trying to steal i would probably chaise them off. If the person had knocked it over I would just get their details so I could claim on their insurance, shouting and hitting them isn't going to sort out the situation.

BUT in the real world, I think I would poodle over slowly and wait to see what they do, and then interrogate accordingly....

Ok, this is a bit off of the original point, but it seems to be the way this thread is heading:

When ever i see someone looking at my bike, i do get very suspicious. I know it might sound a bit odd to some of you guys, but when you see the state of my bike, you realy have to wonder why anyone would want to be looking at it...

However i have had a few guys look and ask me about the bike, telling me how they had a GS500 the same as mine when they were my age Laughing

Remembering the fun times they had on theirs Wink
