 |
|
Heya.
Just been threw the rush hour traffic today, and normally I wait till the cars have stopped before I start to filter... which normally puts me in dodgey positions, or at least it does when I try to get in the middle part of the road.
But today I saw a biker who was a bit of a lunatic all be it, dodgeing in and out of traffic at pretty fast speeds considering the traffic flow.
But I got my bottle up and just did it, and I think I did pretty bloody good Just concentrated on making progress but without putting myself at to much risk. Was great fun, now I see why you guys go on about it so much |

Nothing beats it! , especially if you spare a moment to look into the cars as you pass and see the drivers facial expressions as you wizz past them, when they know they aren't going anywhere for a while yet... feeling smugs great |

There's nothing like seeing someone else breeze past as sit you in a queue to make you start filtering.
I know before I started doing it all the time I would (quite happily, infact) sit in the queue, it still beat walking or getting a bus, and then a bike would nip past. Then another. Then another. And other....
Being quite (read: very) self-conscious about the fact I had L-plates, and looked too big for my bike, I could feel myself becoming embarrassed almost as if every other biker was trying to show me up ("come on, sit it the jam with me.... mmMMm petrol fumes") and every car driver was laughing at me because of it. I waited there until the shame of it all got too much and I followed the next biker through the middle. As my red face slowly returned to normal everybody else slowly truned green... awesome
Try to filter all the time now, but even so, sometimes I think Im filtering simply because I can rather than because I really want too. However having completed said filtering manoeuvre perched right at the front of the queue I'm then reassured that actually, yeah, I did want to do that afterall. ____________________ It's all in the reflexes. |

Question for those of you that do filter alot...and sorry if this is bit of a post hijack...
I sometimes find myself flitering from about Heathrow all the way into the centre of london so a lot of filtering basically.
But sometimes especially when the traffic is stationary and I'm bimbling through at anything over 50mph I find that I get this funny tunnel vision thingy. Cars sort of blur past and I find it hard to focus on whats about to happen a mile up the road? Does anyone else get this or should I stop sprinkling LSD on my shreddies?? |

Nice one mate, filtering is cool!
But filtering through stationery traffic at speeds above 50mph is asking for trouble and could be perceived as potential suicide ____________________ My Bikes in order:- Yamaha RXS100 / Suzuki X7 250 / Yamaha RD350LC / Kawasaki

Okay Okay, bimbling through at "ahem" 30mph...Oh I don't know I'm in second anyway and sometimes I slow down for a slightly tighter gap I punch out of it and hit 50mph before I know it
HEnny-WHey.....the question was the tunnel vision thing, are there any tips for avoiding it or is it really just me?? |

I've experienced the tunnel vision thing when travelling pretty quickly down a road that has trees growing over to the point where they meet in the middle and create a roof.
Hang on, that'd be a tunnel then
ps I also get tunnel vision in tunnels ____________________ My Bikes in order:- Yamaha RXS100 / Suzuki X7 250 / Yamaha RD350LC / Kawasaki
