Iridium Visors?

Hi,

I have just purchased an Arai Corsair RX7 Nakano replica helmet and am looking at getting a tinted visor. Is this a good idea for riding or will cops give me hassle. At the moment i'm looking at a blue iridium visor

Also do these scratch really easy and are they totally non-see through?
I'm looking at getting from www.racevisors.co.uk but does anyone know of cheaper places or have codes for this site?

Good choice in lids.

I find the tinted and the iridium visors do scratch easily especially compared to the standard visors.

Police have never pulled me for an illegal visor but I always carry a standard for when it gets dark. Bit of practice and you will be able to change them without removing your lid.

i thought iradium visors where road legal? or is it the rainbow light one they sell in hg. i was looking one for my agv.

racevisors is the cheapest place that ive found and they have good customer service aswell i wouldnt get a irridium though because the two ive had have both scratched really easily but my black tinted one doesnt so i would say go for black.

I hate them. Bought a visor off KBC for my old VR1. Worst $35 I ever spent. Was unusable within the week. Turns out the same tiny pebbles that don't even phase a standard visor leave horrendous off-color potholes when bounced off an iridium coating. I couldn't handle the distraction and gave the piece of crap away.

Then again, I know people that ride around with their iridium visors in a ridiculous state of disrepair and aren't bothered by it at all. To each his own.

As an aside, I highly recommend smoke and dark smoke tinted visors.

I had a blue iridium visor on my helmet and it looked really cool.
When it was new it was great, it was just like looking through a tinted visor.
Unfortunately it was covered in fine scratches within days. Looking through the visor the scratches really stand out because they appear blue. I was struggling to see properly and I binned the visor after having less than a weeks use out of it.

I've got an RX7 and bought an original Arai blue Iridium visor from the same place. I find that I can't ride with mine, it may be a one off or my eyes, but I find there's some sort distortion to the depth perception. My black visors are fine I've have no such problems, it's just this blue one.

As far as being pulled, I've never been stopped for my visor. I always carry a clear one and change if I need to. If you don't take the p*ss you should be ok.

kwl visor....got mine a few days ago then crashed lol but it isnt that bad its mainly on the side of the visor....anyway mine is clear on the inside so i can see at night which makes it legal...it just has a iridium coating on it...its quite kool!

I agree with Finglonga, iridium visors are generally black not for road use visors underneath the layer/coating of metal.

Just carry a clear one and you'll be ok.

I've heard the do scratch easier, but a mate has had one on his AGV for nearly three years and his has no scratches on it.

I had an official HJC iridium visor, which was on my helmet put up on a shelf in my room. I live in my student house with mates and when I came back one day my helmet was on my chair with about seven small scratches on it! I asked around and one of the lads owned up to trying it on but didn't know anything about the scratches.

He wouldn't have deliberately scratched it as he's a good mate, but this goes to show that they do scratch easily if you don't take care over them. Look after it and be careful and it should be fine. It's put me off getting another one though, because imagine what a stone at, well even 30mph would do to it!

I bought a silver one from the visorshop.com and it's been great, not too dark but totally opaque from outside and doesn't chip or scratch too easily. Was about £30 for my AGV. I used to carry the original one with me but after speaking to a couple of coppers with my silver one fitted I don't bother anymore.

BE VERY CARFUL when you clean these visors, I strongly recommend getting a tearoff put on it. My arai visor ( GP5k ) started to fade away ( its a red one ) about about 10 cleans.

you can get road legal iridium and tinted visors they have to let at least 50% of light through. i think the race visors block 75% of light.
