Second bike nicked in 4 months

So my second bike, my Yamaha TZR was stolen last night, only 4 months after my first bike, Yamaba YB100 was nicked.

Yes it was locked (disc lock), it was on a busy road, it was early evening (between 7 and 10 o'clock) and the bastards still took it.

Neither bike was insured for theft (TPFP was over 1,000, TP 300).

I'm about ready to stop biking completely because I just can't handle the stress, heartbreak and financial problems. I loved that TZR.

Feel for you mate.

There's only so much you can do to protect your bike. I've gone as far as alarming the garage.

My dog is a big help too, he's always looking out, so much as a squirrel goes on the drive, he starts barking.

Dude…. I had a ’04 brand new out of the showroom DTR stolen. I walked outside, and walked back in feeling a little down.

It was third party only because I was a lazy turd, I hate dealing with insurers they piss me off.

The bike wouldn’t have gone if I had spent 30 minutes putting the chain and wall fixing that I bought from Wickes on the wall of my GF’s house.
I’ve had 3 bikes stolen, all because I was a little lazy, all locked, but locked with padlocks and chains isn’t enough today.

Get a loan, or save up, buy a bike, sort insurance and sort security.

Oh man what a downer! As people have said concentrate more on security with your next bike and it shouldn't happen again. It won't be long before you can afford TPTT insurance.

Sorry to hear that, invest in a couple of good chains & an alarm, a disklock isn't going to stop it from being lifted. Next time get TPFT too

if it aint locked down they will nick it is my motto. stick to this and you wont go far wrong.

Its harsh having 2 bikes stolen in so short space of time but it is preventable if you try. next time go for a cover and a ground anchor.

I have to agree, i've never had a bike stolen, but i would definatly say that physically securing it to a large object or the ground is the best option. And try to secure the chassis or rear wheel instead of the front wheel.

I would recommend a big abus chain and lock (like to see someone try and cut that). It may cost you a good £50 but rather that then buy a new bike.

And don't give up biking because you've had your bike nicked, it could have been your car.

I have a metal plate and eye bolted to the concrete post outside my house (had a mate weld one up for me for free) and I use a J&S chain and lock that weighs about as much as I do through the back wheel and shocker. The chain cost me twenty quid. Never been touched in 3 years, you don't have to spend a fortune to keep your bike safe mate, just a few minutes each time you park up. Sorry about your loss, but you could make it harder for them.

Bad luck! But disc locks are only made for one thing and thats to make the owner look a complete twat when he/she rides of with it still on. One man could chuck a TZR into the back of the van without you hearing it.

Next time get an alarm and a good chain and lock/ground anchor.

Thanks for the remarks but they all involve money, which is something which I have absolutly zilch of at the moment.

The reason I got in to bikes is because I can't afford a car (2k+ insurance). Every night my bike is chained, covered, and disc-locked in my driveway.

I had only popped over to a friends house for a few hours, which is why it wasn't chained to buckingham palace gates for once.

Average chain and padlock - £30 - £50


Cost of losing bike - a bit more than that.

None of the above would stop everyone but at least it might put someone off taking the bike and you might have heard something.

I know a guy that has just brought a brand new CBR125 who can't be convinced to buy any security stuff despite having his scooter stolen three times. Lets just wait and see.

if you can afford another bike, you can afford a £10 ground anchor

If you usually chain it to the gates, just make sure you do it every time.
