Racing brake hoses

Are racing braided hoses suitable to use on the road. I can't imagine there'd be a problem but just wanted to double check before buying some.

Yes, as long as they are not the ones with alloy fittings which you should not touch with a bargepole.

Depending on how they are made though they might not be legal in some countries (think in America they must be made with swaged fittings rather than just bolted together).

If they are branded as 'Racing' hoses you want to double check they don't have aluminium fittings. These are fine on the track where they will be replaced after a seaso,n but on the road the delicate aluminium corrodes in no time and can become quite dangerous.

Most people tend to opt for braided hoses when needing to replace hoses as they are generally considered to be better quality. IIRC an Ebay seller called WEZ-moto?? sells Goodridge hoses for around £40 a set with zinc plated fittings and are very good quality for the price.

Cheers guys. They are Earls performance hoses if that means anything, i'll try and find out what the fittings are.

Aren't the really good hoses made of Kevlar or Teflon these days rather than steel?

I've got what's supposed to be a 'race' setup on at the moment - a seperate stainless line to each calliper. Works fine, bit more bite, bit less lever travel, hence brakes that feel a bit stronger to the touch.
