I'm moving from London to Manchester and have to take my car and bike up there- it all has to go on the same weekend. Does anyone know a cheap way of getting a motorbike up there? All bike transporters seem quite expensive as they are for moving classics and race bikes, when my little GS500 doesn't need lots of special attention. Any thoughts very welcome!

Have you got any good friends who are fully comp on their car insurance and could drive your car whilst you ride?

You could then 'pay' them by cooking dinner/buying them a drink or two and paying for their train ticket home.

Leave the bike in London with a friend, get a train back from Manchester yourself, ride the bike back up. £50 for a train ticket, £15 fuel, maybe a 6 hour round trip.

How does that compare with the bike transporter?

If your lucky, you could get a train ticket for about £15. You'll need to book in advance.

You wont get anything "cheap" in transport terms, you have to pay for their fuel, insurance wage for driver etc going up and down seems a much better idea and you will get a nice long ride in the bargin as well!

I'd be tempted to "breakdown" then call out my breakdown recovery and get recovered to my home address.

Might have to be good at blagging though.
