Does anyone have any experience with setting the suspension up for a TLS or have a link to a suspension guide?

I've had a look at his setup and his sag figures seem well dodgy to me and its not immediately obvious how you go about adjusting the preload on the rear shock on one of those beasts, surely you don't have to remove the shock to have a twiddle Confused

Off hand, no. But when I was considering a TLS after the RVF, these chaps gave a few good hints on what to look for. Maybe they could help with suspension setup too?

aren't these bikes notorious for their suspension set-up? i.e. frisky? or am i thinking of something else.

As far as I know, the TLS did get a reputation as a hedge trimmer, any decent suspension settings can only help I guess.

Cheers Strag, useful numbers there.

Yes, the TLS did get a reputation for being a widow maker, mainly down to the contraversial rear rotary damper.

Its tips on the easiest way to adjust the preload on the rear shock my mates after. It seems to us the only way to adjust is to remove the shock itself which is a major pain in the backside Neutral

I've seen first hand how nasty the TLS can be when the suspension isnt set up rite!!! Shocked , I know all bikes don't work well with incorrect set up, but damn!.

Hope he gets it sorted mate!!!!

I had a mate of mine sort the suspension on my bike yesterday, well as good as its going to get with a standard shock which is miles too hard!

My mate with the TLS is 17 stone with his gear on and guess what hes just the right weight for the spring on my bike Evil or Very Mad

and bugger me! i'm 11 stone in all my gear and i'm just about the right weight for his rear shock settings Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, i've ridden his TL a few times and it does get a bit lively on the bumpy stuff, but no more than my 10R. But it does seem well setup for me and we're presuming the previous owner was a light rider.

Mine is behaving a lot better now by the way Wink

From when ive been on tl planet before they recommend lashing the standard shock in the bin and fitting an aftermarket one, i cant remember the manufactureres off hand but im sure most companys do a shock for the tl. i was told also by a few peeps that you have to keep an eye on your chain tension aswell because this can cause a few problems when it tightens up.
The aftermarket shocks are usually in the standard monoshock position, this is supposed to be the best mod for the tl by far.
im saving up myself for one but ive got a single swing arm on mine so i dont know whether it will improve the handling.
all i know is that i have to hang on cos im quite light 11 ish stone, and just be prepared for the tankslapper when i accelerate hard or even moderatley its still the best bike in the world

Yeah my mates is going to trash the old shock and the rotary damper over the winter and convert to a more conventional mono shock system.

But in the meantime he has around 65mm of rider sag Shocked and the poor bike is squirming around under hard acceleration more than a pedophile at a police station creche Razz

tell him to leave of the pies for a bit, me mate took his trx to a place in leigh i think, and they sorted his suspension for him in a few days. ill get the number for you it might even be kais suspension. he is around the 17 stone mark (dont tell him i said that) and they made it hard as fook for him, although he just maxes out the adjustments anyway, so it was pointless but they might help if the shock is a bit tired/needs revalving.
although the same guy started drinking guinness instead of eating a normal tea and lost a stone or two pretty quick
