Luke,

In May's edition of Bike there is a mini review of 250 strokers!

Aprilia came out best if you have loads of money and a death wish, the Suzuki RGV250 seems to be the best buy allround.

I'd say keep the NSR until you can get a 400... insurance is only a group higher than a RS and it should be a fair bit more reliable and easier to ride at less than 100%.

I looked at the import market.
I love the VTR250:

The Hornet 250 is a more powerful four cylinder (yes, a 250cc four!):

I'd go for the VTR, but i'm a v-twin fan Smile

they're both a little under £3k from Boxhill Motorcycles

Yep just goes to show that there are some nice 250's out there, even if they are as rare as rocking horse shit! With the 33bhp 2yr restricted license law these days i would have though that manufacturers would have been more interested in making and importing decent 250's at a sensible price, instead of offering restricter kits on CBR600's for example. I reckon that the VTR and Hornet are nice bikes for a recent test graduate, if they are too young for DAS. But these bikes are way too expensive, and so even if they were officially sold you'd still have to be mad to buy them. I cant see why they cant sell the VTR, Hornet, ZZR250 and any other nice 250's for around £3-3.5k. Then they would make more sense. of course anyone who passes their test and then reaches 21 within the 2 yrs is probably best off taking the test again on a 500, which is what my mate did.

that 250 hornet looks mint! the VTR looks a bit like a Planet or Monster. I'd get the Hornet out of the two (just on looks mind) but I wouldn't buy a 250. I'd like a 600 after my restriction ends just before my 20th birthday, or at least a 400.

there are loads of 250's out there, and we are flooded by them in ireland(cheaper insurance than nsr125)
four stroke wise u have street fighters like the yamaha zeal, hornet and vtr, they all look very cool
then u have cbr, fzr and zxr, again all similar speeds and acceleration, the fzr and cbr are 4 cylinder(fzr definitely) i think
the best yooull get is about 112mph from fzr and cbr, do 60 in a little over 5
the strokers are nuts, the nsr, rs and rgv are all cool, but rgv tends to have issues more than the other 2 even though its the same base as the rs
they all do 125+ and sub 4 second 60's
id say stroker but will be a lot more costly

HI
Ok lot of information i was think of buying some oldie one with low milage you can get the rgv and rs for just over 2000, i want it when i pass my full test an ride it for the two years before i can ride any bike i want. Can you restrict the 250's to 33bhp or shall i just break the law Embarassed and leave it at its standard bhp Mr. Green

get an old NSR250 even though they stopped making them years ago. They are still the best 2 stroke 250........a tzr 250 is also a good choice. As for the 4 cylinder 4 strokes....the cbr, fzr, and zxr, unless your going to be riding in heavy traffic dont bother with them as a step up from a 125 2-stroke
