pretty much my front brake is sticking. ive taken it to someone i know and weve found that the problem is that the piston at the front brake lever doesnt come back out when pressed in and that the piston in the caliper is sticking quite alot too.

does anyone know the best way to sort this or would i have too replace the whole unit?

cheers

adam

Sounds like it needs stripping and cleaning, not the hardest job to do but you need to be careful you don't damage anything. Plently of posts to search through on here on how to do it.

If your not confident then theres a guy on here, sickpup, that strips and repairs calipers for about £20 per piston which new seals and pistons, thats pretty much how much it will cost just for the pistons if you do it yourself.

As a rough guide read this:
https://www.firstfives.org/faq/brakes/in-progress/CaliperRebuild.html

Its based on a car caliper but the basics are the same. One thing I don't agree with is the suggestion of using plier to remove the piston. You should really use the correct tool but the choice is yours, if you damage the piston then you have no choice but to replace it. If you can't get them out using the brake lever and your fingers I suggest you see if you can get a local garage to take the pistons out.

Like I suggested, search the posts on here, plenty of people have done it, you might find some useful info.
