My VFR has two hours left on the listing.
So far i have only had time wasters asking questions, such as...

"U wana swap for a RM125 tuned to fuck mate?"

I really thought the VFR would get more interest than this, there is 13 watchers and no one has made a decent offer.
I had an offer for a grand, which is a joke because we all know they're worth more than that.

Is there anything i can do in the last hour to get someone to bite?

Nearly 2k for an 11 year old bike may seem expensive for some. A fixed price auction will either attract you or distract you. The potential punters may not feel that they are getting a bargain as they cannot haggle with the price.

The last couple of hours are always filled with something.

Be patient Wink

I didnt really know what to let it go for, i thought if i put it at a very high price i'd get a lot of offers for less and i could choose which one i liked.

Shall i drop the price??

I cost me quite a bit to list so i should really sort it now.

Cheers Wink Thumbs Up

I wouldnt go OTT on the asking price...

However nice it is, its a 400, and its the younger riders that a predominantly looking for 400s.

Therefore your going to get offers from the younger audience.

I wouldnt pay £2k.

(BTW You dont pay listing fee's if its not sold...)

Considering you can get many newer sports 600's for that price, i'd probably say it is a little overpriced.

The trouble you've got mate is that it's ebay and everyone wants a bargain. £1000 is probably a fair offer for an average NC30. Yours may be very tidy and worth more you may get £1400 for it but I think for one in good nick £1200 - £1300 is more likely what people will want to pay.

Try selling local such as cards in shop window or local paper.
If they come see it they might be suitably dazzled and forget about potential looming expenses of an ageing bike.

The 400s have taken a massive price blow in recent months. Sorry Killa, the bike's a good'un, but I doubt you'll realistically get much over £1500 for it. People would see the advert, click on the bike, see the price and most would just be put off and go shop elsewhere. The trick is to keep your price hidden so not to turn away 2/3rd of the bike's potential buyers in the first place.

How about trying what I did when selling the RVF? Set a reserve at the price you'ld realistically want to get, set a 7 day auction to gather some interest, flood the forums that the advert's up (but don't give away the price) and start with a ludicrously low starting bid, say £50 or so. Then just see how much the bidding goes up to.

Worked with my RVF and people were offering silly bikes for it as a trade (I'd put a part-ex comment on the description). The bike had gained over 50 watchers before I ended the bidding early as a chap came around and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

The pictures dont to me say a great deal about the condition of the bike. Try getting more closeups to show how clean the bike is etc.

Yeah.

Put it on an auction with a reserve price mike. That way your not going to have to worry about it going for pennies, but people still get the feeling that they are being able to play about with the price. They produce their own idea of what it is worth and that can always supprise you Thumbs Up

Ok so you probably wont be offered £2k for it, but someone might think its worth £1700 to them, you never know. But with a reserve you make sure its not going to go for pennies Thumbs Up

Also, with your description and photos. Make sure you go into detail about the good and bad points, as said above, people dont want to hear where you were born, where you ride it, etc... They want to know when its used (all round / dry miles), milage, service history, good bits and bad bits. Thumbs Up

Dont forget, your photo's arent quite right. They are nice tarty photo's, but they are the photo's that you show your mates down the pub, or online to show off what a sexy bike you have and the places you've been on it etc... To sell the bike you want photo's of it in your driveway, close ups of any damage / good points and as much coverage of the entire machine as you can.

Remember, people looking to buy a bike, aint interested in trees behind the bike, as far as the eye can see. They arent interested in that wooden gate that has rusted hinges and is hanging on by its last bolt. They wont be interested in the gravel entrance to a farmers house... they want to see the bike Thumbs Up

i agree with what craig has said but also put more in the title so when people do searches it will come up on loads of diff words like put...

"HONDA NC30 400 VFR motorbike,motorcycle"

cause some might just put 400cc motorbike/cycle,etc & just honda nc30 wont come up Thumbs Up

& yea seems a little bit steep & yeah also do CLOSE UPS(assume its spanking close up)

The price is a bit high, to give you an idea last year when I briefly had a VFR I paid £1200 for it, excellent condition with lots of extras, ie new shock and fork internals, full stainless exhaust system and a shit load of receipts for bits bought for it, including one for the tarty paint job it had. Sold it on for £1450 but tbh I was lucky to get that, you need to find someone who really wants the bike to get that much for a 400.

I have had a look to confirm this, and now i have ordered a new one which will be here next day. When the speedo stopped she was reading 24,500Km, i have only taken her to the MOT centre and back home twice.

To me that reads 'it failed the MOT once'. Even if that's not what it means, it's unnecessary detail. And if the speedo thing will be fixed before anyone sees it/picks it up. Don't mention it...

And you're asking for wayyy over the odds. Take pics of how good-a-condition the bike is, stick to the facts don't waffle on about bollocks.

Mention what kind of tyres they are on there, you just said they're bridgestone battleaxe.

It is a tidy bike, and it should sell no problem.
Personally I'd stick it on for 99p no reserve, if it's really looking like it's gonna sell for fuck all just cancel the auction or get a mate to stick in a bid of roughly what you want for it. Either he'll win it and you havn't lost your bike, or he'll get outbid and you've effectively got a reserve.

Put the auction so that it doesn't end at 10am on a monday morning cos people are either at work or still in bed.

Take 99.99% of the negative stuff out the description; telling people about how it failed the MOT cos of your lack of knowledge isn't going to make people want to buy from you.

The speedo stopped working the day after you got it MOT'ed and you ordered a new part on next day delivery, dont tell people anything about it then as it'll be fixed by the time anyone see's the bike.

Have you been watching other auctions on eBay to see what they go for?

Tip i'd give for ebay listings is end it on a sunday evening around 7pm. You find alot of people are at home then and if they are looking for a bike like yours it will be on the first page Thumbs Up

my mate had problems selling his vfr 800 for over a year!

Then a few months ago, he relisted as before on ebay and sold it within 24hrs for the asking price of £2.5k, it was a very clean bike tho...low miles etc.

Just depends who see's it at the time, start at sensible price and dont put too much blurb in.

If you list the bike to end at a good time and a good day (Friday sat Sunday evening) Just list the facts of the bike, everything that has been done and can be included.

Ebay generally (if ending right time, good description and good pics) then things sell at what they are worth, you could re list and may get an extra £10 but people that use ebay generally know very well what they can get and for what money.

Thought I'm sure you wont, I'd put it on with a start price of £400 lower start prices attract people, forget about reserves, people often ignore items with reserves as they want to know if they bid they will get it. Even buy it now prices can put people off.

Ebay is about bargains, if you tempt the person into looking, watching or bidding you stand a better chance.

Thought you'll not like it, I'd say given whats on there and about you should expect about £1000 for your bike.

Using ebay to the advantage takes knowledge, understanding and thinking, I could not believed sellers listed £400 pc's from 50p but they did and they got the price coz they knew what they were doing.

Best way to get the max money for your car or bike it clean it like glory, polish it till you can see yourself in it and park it on a main road coming out of a town in rush hour with big "for sale" signs on it and your number. That way you have no competition, people just seeing your nice bike Laughing

Have a look at the two latest auctions I've done.

NTV600

This one hasn't sold yet but the price is very low so it should probably for anything between £75-£150

ZZR600

This one sold for £400 within 12 hours of being put on.

Compare the above two adverts to yours where you make comments like...

Quote:
First off 'reason for sale', i now have a Kawasaki ZX7R because i wanted a larger capacity bike, unfortunatly i've realised i can't afford the NC30 as well so i have to sell her. Sad

You don't need a reason to sell especially when suggesting a sports bike isn't fast enough.

Quote:
Since buying the VFR last year i have spent far too much money on her, mainly servicing and parts to keep her running sweet. She had a full service last year (October) replacing the shims, valves checked, air filter, oil change, brake pads, basically the full service as stated to carry out in work shop manual.

Here you've made it sound like its an unreliable dog thats needs expensive servicing. Better to say it has been fully serviced and maintained regardless of cost while you have owned it.

Quote:
She just went through the MOT this month after failing at first because i didn't realise the end can was so loud, my 'show' plate was a bit silly, the tyres were very worn and the rear disc was badly worn to.

This says you haven't maintained the bike properly.

Better to say it has just had new tyres, rear disc and comes with standard can and race can as well as a small show plate.

If the rear disc is second hand don't mention it at all.

Quote:
As you can see from the pictures below, she is old school but still looks pretty, she turns heads not only for looks but the sound of that can is awesome.

Its not old school its one of the best V4 400's ever made.

Look at the prices of other NC30's to get a better idea of what its worth. You're at least £200-£300 of the mark at the moment for a good one.

Your pictures are terrible. You've managed to advertise the surrounding countryside really well but less than half the space in each pictures is taken up with the bike

Use a theme to surround your auction, people seem to prefer pretty auctions rather than plain ones.

Use 10 day auctions that end on Sunday night then they stretch over two weekends.

Stop putting the bike down and you will find it a lot easier to sell.
