easiest way is a sticker
PB mag are giving stickers away next month so you might get some from there.

Ive got freebies on my NSR and theyve lasted me almost 3 years of commuting rain or shine.

you could buy a mechanical speedo converter:
https://www.motrax.co.uk/Index_pages/kilo_mech.htm
or you could always try to find a speedo from a UK bike and swap it over.

The problem with sticker overlays is that you won't be able to read 'em when it's dark.

A mechanical converter is a much tidier solution (besides getting a UK speedo unit).

Spotted this on ebay, the bike may be an import though. You could always ask him what he wants for his speedo and whether it is a UK bike or not. Check for model compatibility too.

ok thanks guys......the converter for £30 seems quite reasonable. do you know if they are accurate at higher speeds?
do they have a tendency to drift out the faster you go?

thanks

They are generally very good.... so long as your speedo is acuurate enough in the first place Rolling Eyes

All they are is a little gear gizmo that increases you speedo reading by 1.6 (or therabouts) so if your speedo misreads at high speeds then it will misread by 1.6 times more thats all.

Hi all,

Just got my bike yesterday. 2003 Nsr125, can you tell me if the converter would be easy to fit?

I take it your NSR is an import then.
These speedo converters are very easy to fit, simply disconnect the speedo cable from underneath the clocks and put the converter into the clock unit and the cable back into the converter.

*(the blue one is for connection at the clocks end and the gold one for connection at the wheel end, you decide which one you need, most people go for the blue one)

I got mine from Hein Gerricke, or order online from motrax or somewhere.

i would go with the stickers, the mechanical thing can make you speedo hard to read as it uses the kph figures, which are going to be packed together. Does that make sense?! Confused 100mph reads as 100kph, which is 60mph, so the needle doesnt go as far round the clock and it is harder to tell where it is at a quick glance.

You NEED something there for a MOT. I use stickers and i dont have a problem in the dark, as you quickly learn the rough conversions. 30mph = 50k, 40 =65, 50 = 80 , 60 = 100 , 70 = 110, 80 = 130, 100 = 160

Alternatively, you can spend your £30 on a dial-face conversion...

I have had no problems getting bikes through MOTs with kph speedos (and that includes at one time or another at least 7 bikes and a car)

All the best

20mph = 32 km/h
30 = 48
40 = 64
50 = 80
60 = 96
70 = 113

(rounded off)

edit: meh, he asked for exact numbers Rolling Eyes

I think you'll find it shows people are actually bothering to use 'Search' instead of just asking the same question, so in fact it is A Good Thing to pull up old posts.
