So iv been 16 for like a week now and i have my licence. When i do my CBT im ready to roll. Now my plans for a sport replica went out the window when my dad said there was no need. But im allowed a scooter, now i was thinkin about gettin a speedfight, NRG or Aerox but these were all quite expensive, then it turns out my brothers mate has a Piaggio Zip, its an 01 model but as he's my brothers mate i can pay him off over a few months and ill get mates rates (discount), it will have lyk maby a hundred miles as it was an unwanted prize he won.

What do you think i should do, get the zip now or keep saving untill i can get somthing which doesn't look like a pile of shit.

Is there anything i could do to the zip to make it look abit more respectible if i went with that?

Cheers

You can't ride a CG at 16.

Don't bother trying to make a scooter look good. There's that many different tastes, you'll never please anyone. Instead of spending the money on cosmetics, try and buy something a bit more reliable.

I don't know much at all about scooters but I think they all look the same, doesn't matter if it's the brand new sports version or the 20 year old commuter. At least with the older ones you know they work.

You're dads right, why bother paying a fortune for a 50cc "sports" with gears when you'd probably be quicker and more comfortable on a normal scooter with loads of storage space.

hmm forgot about that actually dinne read it proper,

in fact why not buy Phanny's motohispania? , its a 50cc (might be a ped) , looks like a sports bike (except to other riders) , and looks 150mph faster than it really is.

Just get a ped. A zip will be fine.

And don't tune it, seriously. It seems like the best idea in the world at the time but things will go wrong. I learnt the hard way Wink Just a sports exhaust will see you doing around 50 on the clocks, that should be plenty for now.

Good Luck! Mr. Green

Get something cheap, you'll be riding it for about a year max. It's never going to be quick, it's never going to be pretty.

So get it, learn to not ride like a prick (difficult for 'ped riders), get around on it. And get a CG when you turn 17.

Get the Zip, my friend has one and they are not that bad. If you can get it for cheap then you can save for a bigger bike/car next year. Thumbs Up

In short, save your money until you are a year older. You will regret spending loads on a moped/modding a moped now when in a years time you could be putting the money to good use ditching the L plates.

Trust us, we were all 16 and know that 'now' is all you can think about. But try to think about 1 years time when you could be riding something better using the money you didn't spend.

Second tip.....don't buy from a 'friend'. It will have been thrashed 9/10. look in the free-ads etc and buy a nice simple scooter a few years old that's been carefully riden by a commuter. something you know works and has not been modded.

Mate its not been trashed, its not been ridden. It was won as a prize, maby 100 miles from being delievered etc. Other than that it's been sitting in the garage for 5 years. I think im going to go with the zip.

How much does he want for it though?

Personally, if he wants even slightly near the new price, I wouldn't consider it - ie, I'd probably be thinking about a third of new price or less, maybe.

It may be worth more than that, but it won't be by the time you come to sell it probably.

Dont do what i did and spend $2,500 on a plastic fantastic SUPER SCOOT!

Get a thing as cheap as you can that works, and start saving for next year when you get a proper bike/car. Im now at the point where im struggling to sell my scooter for half the price I bought it for..

id say get your mates ped, ride it for a year and try not to claim on your insurance, then you'll have 1 years ncb and you can get yourself a 125, dont spend much on the ped, i spent nothing on mine and it did the job for a year, it will be slow but its better than nothing, and at least you'll have the bonus of helmet storage, thats what i really miss at the moment Razz
