Hiya,

I'm up north in fraserburgh just now for a funeral. ANyhoo my stepdad has came flying into the 21rst century by purchasing a laptop and some broad band.

To give you an idea of how un tech he is, it took half an hour to explain the concept of what a icon was Laughing

Also he has fallen hook line and sinker for AOL marketing and went with them for his net access. TBH, its like a lumbering bag of shite, with more unwieldy and god awful features which simply are not needed! Never mind the modem drops the DNS every five minutes Evil or Very Mad

Anyhoo, I was wondering if it was possible to configure the laptop to connect directly to the net and by pass having to use AOL 9.0 altogether as it is destroying the performance of the laptop, especially at startup. I mean at home I just click on firefox and wahey, net access. Is this possible with a standard BT voyager modem and AOL connection?

Earlier versions of AOL used to be shite, but have heard more positive than negative comments about them recently.

We are on aol and the software is a load of shit, would take ages to load and crash every half an hour. I think the only way of getting rid of it is by getting wireless, we now have wireless and i can turn on my computer and instantly go onto firefox without messing around with aol.

AOL = The internet for those that dont now any better.

I think aol creates a standard dial up connection see if it'll connect using that (I'm not sure if it does or not)

AOL sucks donkey balls (even If I did used to fancy the bird that advertised them about 8 years ago Embarassed )

It sucks in so many ways. Perhaps the worst way is that they are trying to make the net jump to their tune.
