It seems to me there are plenty of younger folks who want to emigrate , my question is why?,

I often consider this , with the dole tipping point constantly getting higher , the government secretly planning to road price, and tax us more and more on the sly crime etc(and probably by 2020 all that will be left are chavs).

And anybody who has , how did it work out for you?,

I'm always wary that the grass isn't greener and that holiday mindsets can give rose tinted glasses,

anybody care to share their thoughts?

Thanks

I was (maybe still am) in the process of moving to California to work as a nurse in sunny LA.

Both my wife and I are fed up with wrking within the NHS and having no money and prospects for our son, so off hopefully for a better life for all.

After living in the states for year on my student exchange, i know i couldnt live there.
I could happily live in south east asia as the culture is completely different and i would allow myself to go with the flow and get involved with it/learn about it.

The US is so similar to the UK that the differences really stand out and that bugged the shit out of me.

I'd like to move abroad to work in a museum, or as a guide at somewhere like Karnak temple, for example. Only diference is that the people out there are too damn scary for me, and I'd probably get kidnapped and sold Crying or Very sad
I don't like it here because there's so many holes in our government, things just don't make sense yet they are allowed to go on anyway because of human rights or some outdated, archaic law from way back. I think prisons are too soft, paedophiles should be executed, taxes are too high and we don't seem to get much back from them, the whole pension system will be screwed by the time I'm of a pensionable age...oh, and I can't EVER afford a house in my area because they are all upwards of £100,000 and there's no decent jobs in Thanet. Rolling Eyes
All I want is to do a job I love, live with the guy I love (in a house where my parents aren't!). I don't want a flash car, and I'd be content to be poor, just as long as I was happy.

Job prospects.

More money.

Different weather.

Just want a change really and moving to a different part of the country isn't 'enough'.

Thought about moving to Canada or Australia, wherever mechanical engineering jobs are plentiful.

lets tip that on its head....

What is there in England to stay for?

OK there are some beautiful parts which we visit for relaxation but at the grand old age of being in my 30's...I am totally disullusioned with most of the UK that I know....and live in...or work in.

Yep I guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side but its dam well not very green here.

When I was backpacking across Australia/New Zealand I was working badly paid dead end jobs and still could afford a better standard of life then I can over here.
In Australia the government give first time house buyers $15k to help them get on the ladder.
We get naff all here and our house prices are 3 times higher.

Why do I stay?
Family, friends and the fact that I'm not a tradesman or don't have a large sum of money to take with me so probably wouldn' even be allowed to relocate to most countries that I'd want to live in.
Then on top of that like everybody else I've lived here to long to just up and leave, I'm too used to my life the way it is.

If I ever do manage to afford my own place over here its gonna be kinda a happy and a sad day in one. Happy as I have finally bought my own place and don't have to live under anybody elses rules. Sad as I'l be trapped here for the rest of my life!

I have a few friends who live in south east asia. Yes, you get more for your money, nicer house, better life style, but nothing works, getting anything done is a nightmare. Phone line? certainly 6 month wait. Ditto for mains water. The power goes out all the time, there is no rubbish collection and the health care is a bit hit and miss even in the big shiny hospitals ( for which you have to pay). The thing that really seems to get to t hem in the end though is the lack of seasons, hot is nice it seems but not every single day, you need something to contrast the hot with.

Hi

Have thought about it. My language skills are pretty much non existant which is a bit of a problem.

Spent 15 months working in Belgium and 3 months in Aus.

Belgium was a bit different. Belgians are generally very relaxed but the country is hot on bureaucracy. Something that annoys me seriously (and this country used not to be bad for it but is getting far worse for it, for example the pointless SORN system). Tax is higher but their tax system works differently. Seems they basically have a high basic tax rate but you can claim a lot back (eg, you get tax relief on the distance you commute to work), which means you need to know whats going on. Eating out was expensive (another thing that there are varous tax ruses about) but food was cheap and good. Petrol was cheap. Belgian work ethic was pretty much non existant (they decided that having smoking rooms for the smokers to skive in was unfair, so they introduced a non smoking room for the non smokers to skive in). Housing costs were lower but the costs of moving were more (and rental agreements tended to be very long term).

Aus was different, but not that different to the UK. Different to their reputation, the aussies seemed even more stressed than people in the UK. Tax was higher, but most things were a lot cheaper to buy (but this was before they changed the tax system, they now have a sales tax to pay for income tax cuts). Roads were a mess. Loads of traffic police (and most people seemed to regard the police somewhere below peoples opinion here of Richard Brunstrom) and dog slow dozzy drivers. Fuel is dirt cheap, as is insurance but road tax was hideously expensive. Houses were cheap compared to the UK. Weather in Melbourne was not bad (sort of UK spring or warmer). Out of town the place is empty (Victora is about the size of the UK with a tenth of the population). Strange idea of tourist attractions (one weekend we went for a trip and for about 100km there were signs for "See the Mahogany ship", etc, and when we finally got there it was a black fibreglass ship for kids to play on outside McDonalds, the actual Mahogany ship is a bit of a mystery). For was cheap and good. Indeed one Aus friend of ours had lived in a house for several years and never bothered to connect up the cooker as he ate out or bought takeaway all the time.

Would I move abroad? Yes I would certainly think about it. Just need to find somewhere more relaxed and with less pointless bureaucracy.

All the best

Keith

Id love to emigrate but just cant afford it

The problem with the uk is that us working folk are worse off than the dolees.

One of my mates has 2 kids has never worked in his life yet gets his rent paid and most of his utillities paid for him. He also gets given money to spend every week and has just been offered his house which are £120000+ privatelly for £34000. It really does take the piss and makes me want to leave before this country crumbles and becomes 3rd world.

Another thing which annoys me about this country is just over the road a disabled guy lives with his parents none have jobs yet they drive a people carrier which is renewed every couple of years and they have just had the ajacent house and there own knocked into one. Im on a good wage but im struggling to get on the property ladder
Please dont get me wrong i dont hate the disabled or anything and this guys legs are obviouslly well and trully fucked but his arms still work fine so why cant he work?.
I used to SIT on a production line for hours assembling mainboards and packing boxed the government should make these guys work and earn a living.

Also i dont know if youve noticed latelly there are A LOT of companys bailing out of the uk.
6 places near me have shut down within the last few months. Work is getting slack at my job and it doesnt look like new orders will be coming in any time soon as its all going to china.
The company i work for is huge. But to help cut the extortionate taxes they have to pay when sending parts out we have been getting sent to different countrys with our order in hand luggage. Its chaper to send a person with a suitcase and pockets full of parts than to send them on there own in a box.

I would love to save up and emigrate to somewhere like australia i could get a bigger house than what im in at the moment for a third of the price over here.

Those who think it's expensive should look into it, and the requirement's arent always as hard to get into the country's as you'd think.

I'm not staying in the UK for longer than is necessary, even if it means travelling the world constantly.

There is nothing in the UK that can't be had in other countries, but many of these other countries have more space, main reason why I intened to leave.

Why not? Just what has this country got going for it that would make anyone with pep in their blood want to stay? The only reason most of the population does stay is because they are crippled by debt, have zero financial resources with which to achieve escape-velocity and lack an education with which to qualify for a decent job elsewhere.

And suprise, all three factors are part of the establishment's deliberate design. You're not here to enjoy your own slice of life, you're here to provide the life of O'Reilly for the top 5% of the population. That's right, you're effectively no better than slaves...work your bollocks off and still barely have half a nostril above the waterline.

There is one thing this country has going for it...familiarity. We love our left side of the road, Walkers chips, Heinz beans, supermarkets that make sense and have loads of stuff, comfy TV and so on and so forth. And that's it. Everything else, it's shite. I mean, most of it would be bearable if the majority of us weren't slaughtered by financial nightmare, poverty, struggle, dire anxiety, never getting ahead, worried sick, over-worked and over-taxed, treated with utter contempt, subjected to an endless barrage of petty rules and regulations...shall I go on?

This country is an utter shit hole, owned and led by filth, vermin and scum, and the majority of it's population is shat on every day of it's life.

Second that.

I'm torn between moving to Austin Texas with my girlfriend (her hometown) and staying here. I dont know why I'm even considering staying, I get homesick when I'm abroad though, no idea why. I'm also desperate I suppose to avoid the drawn out process of chasing telephone numbers and officials in circles, to try and get a green card (and I like the british countryside and fauna Embarassed ) and like Siggi said, familiarity.

Somethings gotta give Laughing

Hi. Hopefully if all things go according to plan I should hopefully have left the UK within the next two years to live with a close friend in Australia. Having just left college with a Level 2 City & Guilds qualification in Plumbing and recently started a labouring job. I've started to look for local colleges round my area to see where I'm able to do my level 3 qualification, which will hopefully get me up higher up the food chain. My friend has already contacted two people who seem very interested in taking me on over there as an apprentice, which would be a dream come true. So all I gotta do in the mean time is sit back and keep on believing that I'll get to Australia one day. Fingers crossed. Thumbs Up

Having nor the money or resources to emigrate, i'm gonna take Siggi's advice and stick it to the man. Starting by not paying my TV licence at uni. Middle Finger Laughing
