Inspired by the police stories below i was wondering...
If you get in the sh#t abroad can you get points on your license in this country?
Or just a fine?

As far as I know just a fine.

In some countries your just let off, hmmmm how do i know that????

Middle of Ireland at night in a 55mph area, but restricted to 30mph, due to road works. I passed an unlit garage doing 79, then all of a sudden , the headlights of a car light up.

Dohhhhhhhhhh, the guy let me off, smelt my breath, asked if I was holidaying or working, told me the speed limit and then he followed me for the next hour. Yes thats correct for an entire hour.

Its a bit of time since I've been stopped in Europe but it used to be a fine or prision. I've heard of keys and passports being taken to make sure you turn up at court, which they used to arrange for the next day in most cases.

Points never came into it because they weren't valid but I seem to remember that the law was changing on this, although that might have been a dream?

Big difference over which country you get stopped in as well, its still possible to bribe the Police in Eastern European countries if you get stopped, or as they describe it, its a fine with no receipt. They seem to prefer it if you ask if you can pay a fine Smile
