Odd clutch noise , what could be wrong?

Going to take it to a mechanic on Saturday (as have to work during the week),
staring up the NTV is fine , BUT , when idling in neutral with the clutch
out theres a sort of rattle noise in time with the engine at the base of the
cyclinders pretty much where the clutch/crank is.

Doesn't matter if the engine is warmed up or not , noise still occurs , only recently
noticed it due to Earplugs all the time on the bike.

Pull the clutch in the noise dissapears, otherwise bike rides completely
fine, clutch does feel very heavy recently though.

Any idea of whats up? , me haynes says buggered clutch or gears , though
the lack of clutch drag/creep forward makes me thnk not , but I'm not a mechanic.

I want to know the pontential wallet damage, since its getting absolutely on the tyre limit and oil/service limits and I don't want to be buying oats for a dead horse so to speak, as for only a bit more than Tyres+oil , I can get another hack.

Or fly down south to get me GT550.

Any ideas?

Clutch rattle is not unusual, some bikes have it from almost new.

Sometimes if the carbs need synching it can cause the clutch to rattle a bit more than usual due to backlash in the gearbox.

Have you checked / changed the oil recently?

but If an xj600 Dosent have clutch rattle you should worry, yea i wouldn't think anything major of it, if its a new noise it might just need some sort of adjustment.
