why is it that parents think they have a right to poke through personal stuff ?

If he is 16 he is technically an adult in some ways so he is responsible if he gets himself in trouble for some reason.

However, the 'we are just concerned in case he is up to no good' line is just an excuse for snooping and general noseyness.

Of course if I ever become a parent I will probably be just as bad.

Shouldn't really poke through but you do because you care, not because you want to ruin things for them. Not to put the shits up you or anything but teenagers nowadays take alot more liberties and get up to a whole load of trouble so I think you did the right thing.

Becomes a different story when they hit 18 though.

You shouldn't really do that.

He's young should be able to do what he wants (with in reason)

only if it starts getting out of hand then you can take action, it should be obvious when it does. i.e with drink drugs etc.

Isn't a dado one of those bits of wood that goes about halfway up the wall?

What's embarassing about that? Unless she walked in to find you with one..... Shocked

Snooping through thier phone is bang out of order I must say. 16 year olds are naturally secretive and unless they're causing you concern or turning up p!ssed or off thier face then you shouldn't betray them.

I bet they'll find out.

sounds like you're really trusting parents, assuming he's into drink and drugs.. if he WASN'T into girls, I'd be worried.

If my parents were as untrusting as you appear to be, it'd would have made me even more secretive, just in case you saw something you didn't like and got the wrong end of the stick.

You don't wanna be checking the texts.

Have a snoop around in his pictures and videos..
He's bound to have some kind of porn on there (hey, who doesn't) but that's forgivable Smile

Any pictures of any 16 year old girls naked? If so, then you know he's going round pregnizing GCSE students Very Happy... then put the pictures up here :p

They really ought to have a fucking hilarious rating. Funny just doesn't cut it sometimes. Though maybe my sense of humour is warped.

Snooping on your kid just ain't right, if I was your son/daughter I'd never speak to you again.

If he was taking drugs, you'd know about it.

Thanks for all your replies.

I want to know what he's upto because I care as a parent, not be nosey. If he is seeing a girl we (parents) want him to be careful protection wise.

He stayed out Sunday night at a mates, hung over all day Monday and puking, he tells us that he has been drinking with mates for a year or so, yet we NEVER knew, no smell no nothing.

Hence the interest as to what hes been up to.

Your turn will come no doubt.

Im 16 and if i found out my parents had been looking through my texts it would seriously ruin my trust with them and would probably mean i would never want to talk to them about any thing i do.

Maybe you should at least speak to him about drinking and get him to tell you if he is going out for a drink. Whether or not you approve he is still going to do it and im sure you would feel better if you at least know what he is doing.

I think im quite lucky as my parents dont snoop through my stuff and feel the need to be nosey, this is probably just because im honest what im doing and tell them if im going to a party, pub etc.
