 |
|
I've just about to come to the anniversary of the purchase of my latest heap of crap. It's been used almost every day in that time, and I've calculated that if I include everything (depreciation, tax, insurance, MOT, repairs, maintenance, petrol), it's cost me slightly less than 1% of my salary.
It should be noted that the bike is a bit, err, utilitarian, I'm quite well paid (but not extraordinarily so), can fix things myself and am tighter than a gnat's chuff.
Thing is, I can't believe I've actually spent that much of my wages on on it. I was wondering what other riders regard as a realistic figure?

Ouch! I really wish I han't worked that out.
Loan repayments + insurance + maintanence + fuel + average spend on kit = 35% of my salary.
Lol, I'd be bloody loaded if it wasn't for bikes! |

1% you lucky person.
when i had a job it used about 20% when it worked ok.
however, i kinda blew it up (my fault, not a normal running thing) so over about 3 months i had a bike and a job it cost about £1300. thats over 43% of my post tax wages
none of these figures include the purchase cost, and it was bought wth cash, not loan or owt with repayments.
now im poor, and have no idea how i will continue to finance my bike. need another part time job or summit while im at uni

All i've ever really had to pay out often for is petrol.
Never had anything long enough or done enough miles for a service and only ever had to get 1 mot, my car the other week which was £30.
Usually just spent money on tarty bits when i have bikes and they are working. |

lets see my old hack:
£520 petrol
£100 insurance
£30 MOT
£200 misc repairs
£150 tyres
£50 oil
£62 tax
=7% , which is good! , considering public transport would cost me 25-30%. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Why can I never see sense and realise I just don't want to know how much some stuff costs me?
About 12%. Biggest lump in that is the bike itself, since it was bought this year, followed by petrol as a close second (~1200miles/month -- even with a CG that adds up), then insurance, servicing, chainlube&cleaning stuff and oil (roughly in that order). ____________________ CG125 (stolen->recovered!) || Wars do not decide who's right, only who's left. |

If I sold it at the end of the year (when it is 12 months old), it would have cost me 2.5%. That takes into account depreciation, petrol, servicing and insurance. But the highest depriciation comes in the first year. If I kept it for three years, it would be 1.5%. My car, on the other hand, will have cost me 8% (maybe as high as 10% if it needs a new engine - see other thread) at the end of 4 years. I do much higher mileage in my car.
The BIG cost is the house - mortgage, utility and insurance is over 25%.
The BIGGEST cost is Gordon Brown, who takes 33% (plus VAT on everything I spend). ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

Hi
I reckon about %35 - %40 including servicing petrol (its a v-twin) insurance and the cost of the bike.
No too bad but you have to think %20 of my wages goes on rent, not including all my other bills
