Went out for a spin after work last night, ended up somewhere near Thame, where the A40 joins the M40.

Saw a bike stopped in a layby, just starting to push his bike, so I stopped to see if I could lend him a mobile or anything. Turns out he'd run out of petrol. Din't have anything handy to syphon petrol out of my bike so he gave me some cash and I went back a couple of miles to the nearest petrol station and got a jerry can full of petrol for him.

Wasn't after anything, but the bloke paid me a tenner for me trouble - result! That quite nicely paid for the petrol I'd used in my ride.

Bloke was 40ish, long hair, bike was blue Divvy 900. If that's anyone off here - hello Thumbs Up

I aways stop when i can...

The reason being ive spent so much time on the side of the road, im always pleased to see a new face, even if it is just a "hi, you ok?" etc...

Had some nice bloke stop and sit with me for 25minutes for a little chat because he was ahead of time Laughing That was cool!

I agree. I would stop - but I wouldn't be able to do anything apart from offer a friendly face and a phone. I know f*** all about mechanics and am not insured to take a pillion so I wouldn't be able to fix the bike or give them a lift, but I'd still stop.

Well done for that fella Thumbs Up

When I binned the bike last week on a corner I had one chap stop on a bike (amazingly two cars did as well and others offered their help Shocked ) and when I was sat by the side of the road waiting for the recovery truck nearly every bike slowed down and nodded at me to see if I was ok etc.

i came off my bike yesterday, came off A12 onto a sliproad in essex. I will admit it was my fault that i came off, but 2 cars weaved between me while i was down and the bike which was in middle of the road. neither of them stopped.

When my speedo cable snapped, I was in the middle of knowhere, anyway (i was seeing if I could fix it, no big deal, I could get home).

Can you guess who stopped to see if I was okay.

Was it the 3 bikers who passed me.

Or the 80 year old bloke in his old car.

The old guy.. Not all bikers are decent people.

True, when my scooter broke down I was passed by endless bikes (possibly something to do with the fact its a scooter!)

However the bloke that stopped was in a van, gave me a lift to my mates house with the bike.

Anyhoo - Well done for stopping! Smile

I would stop if I thought I could help in any way. It's not something I'd expect other people to do though and I wouldn't say they're bad people because they don't stop, you shouldn't really need it.

Rick.

Last time I stopped it was for a young lad on a Mito, who was sitting at a roundabout looking lost.

Turns out he had lost his mate on a bright green 'ped, but was otherwise o.k.

So off I went for a play in the town, and accidently came across the lad with the 'ped. Could I flag him down to tell him where his mate was? Could I buggery, as soon as I pulled up he took one look at me and went racing off, so I 'chased' him and at every set of lights tried to tell him that his mate was at the top roundabout, but the moron kept racing off (sometimes through red lights......)

In the end I thought screw it, he doesn't deserve to find the other lad.... Rolling Eyes

I stopped to help paramedics get an unconsious biker into the ambulance on the A556 (at the cross road near Delamere) on monday. His bike, a yamaha of some sort (probably a diversion) was a complete write off after colliding head-on with a Honda CRV . If he happens to be a friend of somone on this board, please let me know how he is doing.

When i broke down a few months back, i started to walk towards my partners work (where i was heading and it was about 3mile away). Anyway after only going half a mile a guy on a VFR stopped next to me asked if i was alright, could he help in any way and would i like a lift. Took him up on his offer and took a lift to my partners work from there i got stuff sorted but its good to know there are always people out there willing to help. Very Happy

Also that guy will be very happy that you stopped to help him, hope someone does the same for yourself if ever needed Karma

Unfortunately I imagine some people are scared of stopping in case it's a setup, which is perfectly valid.

I do, however.

I stopped to help a girl change a flat tyre - just in time to stop her putting the jack on a manhole cover where the car was parked. Shocked

Pushed it forward, changed the tyre and was just putting the flat into the boot when her dad turned up (she'd called him when she stopped).

You wouldn't believe the filthy looks he was giving me as he got out of his car until she explained the situation...

I stopped for a biker, while in the wifes car, who crashed his bike at the bottom of Devils Dyke in Sussex.
He didn't stop for the roundbout, went over the roundabout busting both tyres and smashing the fairing etc.
When I turned up he had been there for about 1/2 an hour and a couple of people stopped but didn't offer to help move his bike from the middle of the roundabout.
We pushed it with difficulty to one side of the road, he said his thankyous and I made sure again that he wasn't hurt in any way (Wife was in the car and is a nurse) gladly he was ok and help was on its way.
