Which chain/lock and disc lock??

Hi, new member here, so hello to all

Have my test in a couple of weeks, and if i pass, will be picking up my gsxr600 but i do not have any security for it yet.

Ive done a search on here and found a couple of posts (so sorry if there is a great big post on this topic)

What chain and what disc lock would you recommend, for around £30-40, somewhere around that budget



Also, i know loads of online car accessory shops, but is there a list anywhere for bike accessories? and if not, could anybody give me some links

Not 100% sure of the make of the disc lock on my bike. Think its probably motrax or some crap(ish)make like that. I got the chain from Lidl when they were doing it for about a £10er.

I always think though that unless you spend a fair bit on it then any determined thief can easily get through them. Its more of a deterrant especially if its parked in a public place where its fairly busy then it'll be more difficult for them to have a go at it.

I think Oxford do a fair range of stuff which isn't too badly priced.

Hay, i just bought a Mammoth Chain and Lock with a Free Oxford Titan Disc lock, total was £24.95 incl. P&P ...

The Mammoth chain and lock has had some good reviews and some places retails at £35+ ...

I asked a very experienced biker friend about this just last week. He said it was pointless buying a particular brand in the hopes of saving money on your insurance as the discount isn't good enough. He also said that his mate lost the key to his lock and chain (English chain) so he just cropped it off with some bolt croppers.

ATEOTD if the thief is going to take your bike, NO lock in the world is going to stop him. The best you can manage is to deter the opportunist thief with a big chain and hefty looking lock and/or an alarm. Maybe a disc lock too.

I'll be using my cheap disc lock and a cheap but hefty lock and chain.

hey cestrian, yeah i know if they want to take it, they will no matter what, im just looking for a chain which will be a deterrent, and not fall off is someone blows on it

I got mine on Ebay. 12 quid, chunky bugger too! Then a disk lock which cost another 11 quid.
Mind, I dont hardly use that at the moment, rode off with chain still attached to the bike so dread to think what the disk lock can do!!!!

Hey I use an "abus granite don't bother with my bike there's one without a lock over there chain......"

But I also use a cover as I park in central London, keeps the theifs away and those pesky traffic wardens at bay.

For accesories try www.Powerbronze.co.uk but think it pends on what year your Gixxer is.

Great choice of bike by the way, what year is it and have you got any picks??

Hi Drew, when I say "cheap", I mean a branded lock with recessed shackle thats really hefty for about £20, and a hefty looking chain for about £15 - £20, as opposed to a monster lock that weighs nearly 20lb and requires a panier just to carry it.

Its a 98 r reg bike, all i could afford really, and seems its 1st bike, didnt want to spend too much even if i did have more money spare.

dont know if exhaust is a good make, proberly not but im sure someone will tell me.

Like i say, i know next to nothing about bikes, cars is a different matter, but i guess this is the place to learn
