Gear lever

Got a problem with the gear lever. The teeth on it seem to have worn down and I can't get it to stay on tight very easilly. Obviously the lever is easy to replace, but it looks like the bit it slides onto is more worn. Is that piece easy to replace too?

Also looking for a headlight and headlight mount that will fit a GS500 if anyone has any advice as to what fits.

Assuming the gear lever is attached directly to a shaft coming out of the gearbox, you won't get to change that shaft without stripping the engine down.

If you are lucky, just the (softer) metal of the lever will be worn, and the (much harder) gear shaft will be ok. In that's the case just getting a new lever will solve the problem for you.

If you are not adverse to a bit of horendous bodging:

1. Weld it on.
2. Nick some fine needles from the wife/your mum (sorry, sexist comment. Shoot me.). Hammer a few of these in between the gear lever and the gearbox shaft until they snap off flush. Mind your eyes.

Note that if you do either of the above, you may never get the bugger off again.

I had the same problem untill recently, However my gear shaft and the lever were worn, and as the shaft goes right into the engine, i opted for a bodge.

Was gonna touch some weld on the outide of the gear lever, had no welders around. So we drilled a hole through the shaft AND the lever, and then hammered in a drillbit that was slightly too large (backend of it) and snaped it off... has been holding nicely...

top bodge for this someone I know did recently..

position the lever on the shaft where you want it.

mark the shaft where the pinch gap is.

dremel a groove on the shaft where that mark is

put a washer on the pinchbot, in that gap such that it sits in the groove, and tighten up.
