Hey guys! I have a quick question to put out there. I have a GN125 at the moment but its rightly pissing me off when a breeze kicks up or I have to go up any sort of hill, the bike just slows down way too much!! Its okay on the straights though. I'd be quicker bloody well walking!! I am thinking about trading and was wondering if the NSR (in restricted form(fucked up system here in Ireland Crying or Very sad ) would be any better?
Many thanks guys,
JK

The restricted NSR that I've got currently has no probs getting up hills - just select a lower gear and it should be fine?

As for winds.. as far as I know they affect every bike (I think) aswell as the NSR. Sidewinds can be harsh too ya gotta watch out for them. Shocked

Just get the NSR anyway, it's great to ride. Very Happy

Don't do it! If you have a GN125 already then there's no point getting another 125. If I could have my time again I would have rather not got an NSR and got a 400 instead. If I had done this I could have saved myself a lot of cash and be riding now. Instead, I am sitting here waiting till I can afford a 600.

yeh, dont do it. An NSR in 12bhp form (i belive they never updated the restrictors) will be no faster overall than a GN125 in 15bhp form - And the GN has a touch of torque and a lot more comfort.

Just do your test and get off the 125, by the sound of ireland insurance your best bet is to get something old an unfaired after you pass your test (e.g. superdream 400, GS400) to build up some no claims and get vaguely reasonable insurance.

alright jonny

im from ireland aswell. what part are you from? what is the highest group of insurance you will go for? they dont have any of the restricted to group two insurance nsr125's left. well when i was looking around at new bikes about two or three months ago they said there was only a couple left in the country and they werent going to be getting more. but i dont know if that is bull cos i was told that in bikeworld so you never know!

I went from a CG to a NS 125 and there was a significant difference, however if you're going to another 125 that's restricted, you won't be getting significantly more power. So you might as well do your test Smile

I'm from good old Dublin.....where insurance on any bike means you need to sell a few limbs just to be able to pay it!

I got a NSR 75 two weeks ago after having a moped for two years. Its brand new so im still running it in. I probably would have had it run in by now but ive been working loads to pay my debts off and its my first geared bike so its only really in the last few days that ive started to get used to the gears.

Have you considered a tzr 125? Last time i checked they were in group 3 insurance which is brilliant cos the full power nsr 125 is in group seven and so is the rs 125. And i think the mito is in group 8.

It all depends on what insurance group you will go to. What group is the GN 125 in? Is it group two?

I know what you mean about the test! i'm applying for mine next week so i probably wont get to do it til the other side of christmas!

wanna buy an rs125 and pretend its restricted :)
the insurance is ghey, and to all the lads from england, if you are below 25 here you arent gettin near anythin above a cbr250 and even that will kill u on insurance
a pass the test and go to a 400 idea is not even an option
bikes4life u should bring it out for a spin sometime, ill tag along

yeah that sounds cool batman. it will be two or three weeks though. still running the bike in. haven't had much of a chance to go out on it cos ive been in work a lot so that's why its not run in yet. i live in dundrum. myself and my mate drove up to enniskerry the other day, pretty nice drive but it was at about four or five in the evening so there were a fair bit of traffic around. i got a good deal when i was getting the bike and i got boots but i find that its harder to drive in them than it is to drive in my runners Confused . is that just me? or did you have that problem?

I jus bought an NSR (new un), I am well happy with it. If you live in built up area they are spot on. But if you live out in the sticks you will definately need it de-restricting.

Speaking to my instructor on CBT today, and he reckons coppers would never check the bike restriction. A. The restrictions can be different from bike to bike, and B. they wouldn't be arsed in taking the bike in to be stripped. So as long as they don't see you blasting round over speed limit, you should be ok.

With my bike being new I have to wait a while to de-restrict it Sad

jonny, ive heard that because the restricted nsr is in group 2 and the unrestricted nsr is in group 7 that they want to do random checks on the bikes to make sure they are still restricted because its such a big difference.

don't know how true that is tho!

Thanks guys, gonna have a check with the nice bank manager and see what coppers are left there!! Might invest and partially restrict it just to free up a bit of power.

In brief, no. There is a 2st vs 4st 125 thread in the FAQs forum that goes into more detail... https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=16536

if you are going to go for that style of bike don't go for the Varadero! the tdr 125 is very similar with its looks but its a 125 2 stroke so it will be more powerful. Or you could think about getting a nsr 75 like me! Laughing
