Im buying a Cagiva Mito 2006 soon, and was wondering what do i need to do to make sure i get the most out of the bike, maximising its potential. How do i clean it? What checks should i do on it? How long do i have to wear it in for, if anything?

Also, about Leathers and Clothing, Do i really need leathers for a 125?

Can you guys please leave some input,

Thanks

Perry

when u buy the bike the dealer will give u advice about the running in period of the bike, in this period DO NOT thrash the engine or it simply wont run properly.
The leathers i would advise, if u think that the mito will do 100mph when de-restricted and easily manage half that when restricted.... would u like to have an off at 50 without any protection?
hope that helps

i would suggest not buy a new 125, as when you come to get a bigger bike it will take you longer to get the money together

i have a friend in this situation
he bought a new rs125 on finance a year or two ago
he now wants to do his test and get a bigger bike but he is still paying off the rs125 and isnt managing to save much towards test and bigger bike

so maybe buy one which is a few years old instead

I binned my scooter at 10mph on a roundabout and it still hurt and weirdly enough it was the first time I choose to put jeans on and a leather jacket so yes I would say get protection Even at 10mph a crash can hurt and now I fully understand why my cbt instructer spent a full 30 minutes talking about clothing. Good luck and have fun with your bike!

When u get it you will be advised on running it in,this is usually over 1000 miles or so. When running it in, DO NOT exceed te allowed amount of revs or the bike will never run to its full potential.

When you are running it in and you are sticking to the allowed revs, and some idiot comes and laughs at you, "your bike is slow it only does 40mph" just laugh at then because whe properly run in it will soon sort them out!

And Leathers are a good idea, but a textile jacket and jeans with sturdy boots was what i used on my125 and they suited me fine

Good Luck with it.

Agree with all above regards running it in - follow guidance given to the letter or you'll cause significant damage that won't be covered by warranty.

Personally, I'd go with 2nd hand 125 - I picked up an NS125R for £500, and a Mito MkII for £450. That's dirt cheap for a Mito... they tend to go in decent nick for about £1000 thereabouts, and I've just chucked another £400 at mine on engine rebuild etc, so mine cost me £850.

Insurance... £180 TPFT. On the road and rolling for a grand. I expect it to last about 12 months before it needs more cash throwing at it (cables, rubbers etc).... all depends how long you anticipate being sat round on L plates before doing your test.

Once run in, expect 110mph derestricted, and approaching 120mph with some fiddling and upgrading of certain bits and the right gearing. Restricted... top speed of about 85mph.

Having come off a 125 at 45 in jeans and a textile jacket and para-boots, I'd recommend leathers n' nothing else personally...

So, take a look at 2nd Hand Mitos, there are plenty on Ebay and plenty moving thru folks' hands over at www.125ccsportsbikes.com, from 1992 onwards usually... altho ideally you want to get one of the EVO models from later on rather than (for instance) a Mito MkII - plastics etc are more readily available.
