Gone & got myself a brand spanking new YBR125 in red.

I know it's not the best machine in the world but for learning & commuting to & from work it's ideal for me Smile

The deal i got;

YBR125 in red (£1999)
Free TP Insurance (£199 upgrade to TPFT)
Free helmet, jacket, gloves and lock & chain.
Tax, L's,etc.

so a total of just under £2200. Not bad i think?

I will post pics & maybe a vid of me riding it when i pick it up Smile

Any one got any thoughts on these machines? Good deal?

I'm like a child at the moment lol, just can't wait to get riding again! Sooooo much fun!

Erm, sorry, you're not going to like this, but, at best sounds like an 'ok' deal.
Add that to the fact your bike is probably worth a few hundred quid less now that you've walked out the show room and it's not something I'd go for. Especially as the bike doesn't offer anything over a second hand bike really.

However, if you're 17, the insurance might make it a bit more worth while.

General advice is not to buy new unless there's a very good reason for it.

Enjoy your bike whatever.

You got a point about losing money on it, however I did receive a £500 YAMcheque which basically means that in 2 years time when ive done my test I can trade my bike in & yamaha will give me £500 on top of the dealer. Slight consilation maybe?

It definitely can't hurt to have that.

However I would be very careful before you use it - have a look at other deals around and more importantly second hand prices.

It may well still be relatively more expensive even with £500. Especially when you consider insurance on new bikes is usually higher, etc.

Well you've got pretty much everything you need... and the main thing is that you're on the road getting in the miles
which is more than I'm doing at the moment (no bike, AND missing the summer Sad )

Good luck, and ride safe Thumbs Up Wink

Dont want to piss on your crisps, but i think you only get the £500 if you get another Yamaha.

Still, nice one for getting a bike, though i would have spent a bit less on the 125 and had a bit more for a bigger bike after the test myself.

Enjoy it!

I'd normally say avoid buying a new 125 but if you add up everything else you would have had to pay for if you'd bought a 2nd hand 125 I guess it justifies it.

£200 clothing (ish)
£500 cheque towards next bike
£x saved on insurance

I guess that potentially brings it down to about £1200? And you do get a nice shiny bike lol.

Good luck with it Smile

Yeah it's very similar to the Kawasaki deal that they used to have back in the early 90's. You would buy a new 125 and have it service by the same dealer you got it from, and then after you passed your test or wanted to buy a bigger bike, they would give you a guaranteed higher than book price value for it against another new Kawasaki. It's a way of manufactueres trying to keep you with the same brand, by seeming to offer a good trade in deal, but in reality they will make it up somewhere else, be it purchase price of the next bike, or being tied into a service deal etc.

If you wanted a new 125 and you are happy with the depreciation and thus the ownership costs, then i suppose you have got yourself a reasonably good deal. There are worse things you could do for example, paying £3500 for a new RS125 would be one of them!
