Hi,

The MT-03 is Yamaha's new 600cc single.

Has anyone on here got one? Or at the least test ridden one?

I've had my SV for only 6 months, but I'm finding it very un-inspiring. I guess it was a bit of a side step from the Bandit.

My riding is mainly urban, with lots of south London commuting. Unfortunately I don't get out into the country very much...

Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on what they're like to ride?

Cheers. Thumbs Up

I doubt you'll find it much more 'inspiring' than the SV to be honest.
It won't have quite as bland power delivery as the SV, but more just because it's lumpier Smile.

Haven't ridden one, but have ridden plenty of big singles.

If you're doing mostly inner city stuff, I'd consider a big single in a trail/supermoto chassis - I find it better for commuting as you're higher up (and above car mirrors) as well as being very thing.

I test rode one for a few days when my bike was in for its service. Great little commuter bike, and made my CBR look tame in comparison. Needs muchos revs to keep it going, but its a laugh to ride!

The position is a bit weird - quite enduro/moto, and a bit too rigid for my liking. Bars too high and wide (and im 6'3). However, wanted to do 60 around roundabouts with a foot out ? no problem.

Crap top speed tho, and watch out for your false teeth when on the motorway. The vibrations were so bad flat out (just shy of 90) that I couldnt even read the signage!!!

I'd buy one, but the fazer is cheaper!!

i rode 1 on the yamaha open days our local dealer has. It was good fun and handled great but i rode it back to back with an XT660 (and the XJR1300, R6 and FJR1300) and i much prefered the XT to the MT. overall the XJR was my top bike but it was a close second to the XT and if i was in a position to have 2 bikes it'd deffinatly be a lightweight single. I rode an SV years ago (when i was on a 250 so it felt like a rocketship) so i cant really compare the 2 without riding one again. I'd try a XT before you part with any hard earned.

my brother was given an mt03 while his new r1 was in for its first service.
basicaly its a comuter bike.
its more comfy for the taller rider than say an er5 cb500 etc.
not much performance to speak of.nephew has a dtx125 and it pulls to 60 about the same but once you get to 70 the mt03 starts a vibration that only gets worse.
as an about town bike it was fine.

My mate has one, and its performance is poor. If you are just doing commuting though it would be reasonably good, but just for those odd occasions when you do go to the country, the SV would be a lot more fun.
