hello all, im new here and i'm here to get some advice on bodyarmor Smile
i just purchased a suzuki gsf600 to replace my 125 marauder, and because i'll be riding on the motorway often now ive decided to get some more heavy duty protection (currently i just wear light jackets, only wearing my proper motorbike jacket in bad weather). I also have a short leather jacket that i wear alot of the time, so ideally im hoping to continue wearing these ontop of the following.

i cant afford a full set of leathers or anything, so i have been thinking about getting something like this:

Sixsixone Core Saver
https://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/photos/300/g22030.jpg

ive already ordered one for £65 to try it on for size, so i'm hoping to get some feedback regarding this type of protection. i think its ideally aimed for motocross and that sort of thing, but i did phone the store and he said it would probably be suitable for road use too.

just thought id get some more feedback before i go out in it!
thanks for the time Smile

For motorway riding this is the sort of stuff you'll be needing. Wink

If you don't have a decent jacket that will protect from abrasain, it may well do nothing at all.
Basically, you fall off with a non protective bike jacket and you will probably tear through this within a second. At which point the back protector may well be ripped off and could possibly cause further harm.

It may work if you land hard, but if it's designed for motocross it man not be designed for for that sort of impact.
You can get cheap leather and textile jackets with built in back armour.

hmm well originally i was just looking for a back protecter to use with my current jackets, but this one caught my eye and seems to have more protection i thought.

i have several jackets that i love wearing out and about on my bike, so was hoping to just reinforce these to make them more suitable for a 600cc bike. any advice then?

To be honest motorways are one of the safest (and perhaps the most boring for a motorbike) roads you could go on.

IMO far better to get a good jacket, gloves, trousers, boots and weather protection to keep out the wind and worst of the weather (I find spray is a problem on m-ways). Some good earplugs and neck warmer too will help.

HTH Thumbs Up

well to be honest, the only motorway use it'll get is when im driving to bournemouth from plymouth, and i was going to wear my proper jacket for such occasions.

as for commuting to work and simple leisure rides, will this core saver be a worthwhile accessory when im wearing light clothing? or is it just a waste of time. (i know im naughty not wearing the full gear 24/7, but still)

its a waste of money IMO. invest in proper bike gear.

In the end, if you're wearing a jacket anyway, why not make it a 'proper' one, rather than a fancy one that won't help you in a crash?

T1z3R is right - would you rather spend £65 on something that may not do a good job should you have a crash yet 'looks nice,' or fork out a couple of hundred pounds on some pretty decent leathers/jakcets/whatever that will do a better job protecting you - and keeping you alive.

If it's looks aswell as protection you like, maybe get a racesuit - most come with back, shoulder, knee and elbow armour and are well built. So you get the protection and they look pretty nifty too Smile

£65 will get you a full set of leathers with armour off ebay - Mine only cost me £45 for full onepiece Heine Gerick suit, which I use both on the road and on the track...

forget about it , for motorway use you need road rash protection primariliy impact second ,

cus motorways don't have as many items of furniture as streets do, and sliding is good compared to codura which grips and rolls you,

sliding on streets is bad cus you may slide under neath an artic passing the other way = you dead.

Sliding on the motorway is better cus if you come off at 70mph you'll slide at 70mph while slowing down due to friction , and the ABS and brakes of the drivers hopefully behind you will stop them going over you cus they can see you slide out.

Only big metal posts every 4.2m holding the barrier up and no amount of armour will protect you from them at 70mph. Thumbs Up
