....you switch from the dark visor to the clear one

the thin summer gloves get thrown to the back of the cupboard and are replaced by dusty moth eaten winter ones

the thermal lining gets replaced in the textiles

Mr polar buff makes an appearence

you decide to wear those thick old man socks

the thought of riding for pleasure leaves you baffeled

you worry wether or not your supercorsas that have been shredded during the summer will grip the stale cold tarmac

your water-proofs are taken with you at all times

a hot frame is a good thing

Ducatti's seem to dissapear

You cant be fucked to clean your bike beacuse you know it will get covered in shite the next day

you start looking up "heated grips" on google

the first thing you do after a ride is have a cup of tea to return your hands to a useable state.

pray for more sunshine (not that it will do any good Wink ) and an indian summer, cause riding through winter fucking sucks. Very Happy

Luke

The biggest indication for me was the cold weather. Maybe that's just me...

I reckon it'll be mid November, before its ice time.

I'll ride till then.

Last year I remember doing a 200 miler over to Devils Bridge then home on the M6, I was so cold. Even in Rides "Top Rated Winter Gloves". I remember drinking coffee at the services and not being able to feel my fingers.

I also remember thinking i'd only seen 1 other bike on the motorway and less than 10 at Devil's.

I also remember thinking why is there an ice cream man at Devils. Where everyone was queing at Cafe for a hot drink.
(Total role reversal this July though!!!)

Winter for me will be a car, I've changed insurers so I can insurer 2 cars on 1 policy and on a monthly basis. So come November i'm off to buy a car that will last me through winter. (Nowt special 6 months MOT), come Feb/March i'll flog it.

(Wife drives the family car, I commute by bike).

No, you just own a bike which looks like it's going to fall to bits any second... hence the worried looks from the onlooking bikers.

Reminds me of that mid january ride back from a gig in oxford only 30 miles................ 1 o'clock in the mornin minus 2, pillion frozen, can't feel fingers, visor unuseable so up but cold freezing eyelids so constantly changing visor position, bike suffering heavily from carb icing, had to rev the nuts off it on every roundabout before it cut out. Took half an hour to get my hands back to reasonable temp - then had to ride back home from mates Razz

Apparently we're going to have a second summer so to speak, well not summer but very very mild September and November. That's what my egg head mates at eh MET office tell me anyway.....

Oh and you only know its winter when you go round the corner on a Honda cub lose traction at about 1 degree lean, go through someones front fence and kill a snowman.....(I think it was the snowman that made me think that it's not great riding conditions).
