Hey, well today i was riding down a 40 zone with an skip lorry up my ass, when all of a suddern my back wheel locked and started to snake down the road, i swear i thought the lorry had hit me, anyway when i got it onto the path one of the nuts had come out of my back brake, that allowed the brake to spin up that then caught the wheel and snapped off the top bracket Mad including snapping my brake line in half along with other stuff, does anyone know what the casing is made out of ? i got told cast ally so not sure where i could get it welded ect or if i could get it welded,

thanks in advance guys

It'll be cast for sure. Just look at the finish. If it's rough, it's definitely cast.

Get shot of that italian heap!

Hi

Aluminium alloy is difficult to weld, and they will need to know what alloy it is to do a decent job.

All the best

Suppose you could get it welded - But only as a temporary

And i'd try not to use that brake at all...

And when you get new casings (you'll need both sides) gaskets, seals and main bearings - then on the V5 put in the new engine number and send it off, Easy as Wink

a weld is generally stronger..but only if it is done by a decent welder, and welded right.

its like trying to do TIG welding (or what ever its called) that you do on alluminium, on steel, or iron or what ever.

i'm confused, is your brake a disc or a drum?

disc, what happed was the bottom nut dropped out and the calipar caught the wheel, what caused it to rip the top bracket off, so i need the top bracket welded back on Rolling Eyes

oh i know what you mean..because the caliper bolts onto the 'engine casing' where the belt etc is..

can't you just get the part where the belt is, and not get a complete engine....if that made sense Rolling Eyes Confused

This is why you should check the bike over at least once a week for any defects. Its not the bikes fault, if you did the checks you would have spotted a loose bolt and saved yourself lots of money and hassle.
