I was chatting to a guy at work today and he was saying that if you have only one mirror on a bike it's a nickable offence (my right one fell off, :roll). Apparently if you have none at all that's fine, but if you have just one it's illegal.

Is that true?

A previous bike of mine only had one mirror as standard but it was the right hand side mirror. Although not sure if its a case of if it was fitted it has to be there.

I think there used to be a law about mirrors, you either have two or none, not one...it may have changed, but that is why you were advised its illegal.

Hi
I dont think its an actual law, kind of 2 laws working together.

Basically if your bike inst supposed to have mirrors then you obviously dont have to have them, like an MX bike.

So if you ride a bike with no mirrors thats technically ok because not all bikes have to have mirrors, so less likely to be checked up on.

If you have 1 mirror then that states that may possibly need to have 2 mirrors therefore could be investigated by the plod.

I hope that makes sense I think the laws a bit vague in that area.

Luke

bikes don't need mirrors for an MOT so I doubt having one is illegal, I've had 1 bar end on the RHS for a long time and its never been mentioned when I've been in the company of the Police.

My bike has passed it's MOT for two years with a single mirror.

Luke is getting it mixed with indicators. -> If you have indicator switches you need indicators. No switches, no indicators.
