Cant beat the sound of a TL-R with Scorpion cans and no baffles, Twisted Evil.

My little ZXR is actually f***ing loud as well, it's got a Micron carbon can from a ZX-7R and it's louder than most 4's I've heard Very Happy.

Your telling me! Shocked im gonna start wearing earplugs more often now and try to avoid the deafness. I actually heard that if you spend something like five minutes at max noise on a bike (say on motorways) without earplugs, its enough to do permanent ear damage. Any thoughts? Question

Make sure you get the bike dyno'd as just sticking on a different can without sorting out the fueling can cause long term damage.

I'll let you know in a few years.

I used to do 70 miles a day on A roads and motorways and I never wore earplugs, I can get on with them. Tinnitus here I come...

Do I need to get a dynojet kit to have it jetted or can they just stick it on the rolling road and adjust the standard carbs?

My VTR must've been set up for race cans, cause it ran like poo with it standards on...cutting out at traffic lights and just not pulling like it should.
I put my race cans on and its been fine since.

vtr's dont need dynojetting for certain cans, so it depends on what cans were on it prior..

If I ride for more than an hour with standard cans I return home slightly deaf for 1/2 hour. plugs are a must imho on any bike - it aint the cans, it's the airstream past yer helmet that deafens

Whats the deal with noise from motorbikes, is there a limit to how loud they can be? How do the police measure it? They surely don't have a decibel meter thingy?

loud cans are great.
however dont be supprised if some one in your street comes round and punches your face,or sprays expanding foam into the can.
not everyone loves loud pipes especially if you are on a different sleep pattern to other folks like a night shift.
guy in my street has a gsx1400 on loud pipes,it sounds great.however at 4 am it somehow becomes a nasty noise.
all the neighbours moaned but i was the only one who explained that if he needs to use the bike early or late he could just bimble along at tickover while in the cul de sac(its not like he hasnt enough tourque)and now we have no problem.
not everyone will talk first!

These sound too bad - you're only going to get stopped and they'll check every other detail of the bike.
Unless you have the carbs rejetted most likely there'll be negative effects on performance and fuel consumption too.
Cans that are a bit louder are cool, but too loud = embarrassing.

It's not the noise of the exhaust that fucks your hearing, it is the high frequency wind noise passing your helmet. You get that even if your bike ran on electric and was completely silent.
