Oh, and here’s a pound note, get some Adam and the Ants on the Wurlitzer.’

Good point...but then as Luke said...it's only the net.
Might as well not bother trying to beat someone down with text.

Definitely Steve, and to continue with your pub analogy, if you don't like it/the landlord/the regulars, you piss off somewhere else and it's their loss.

yeah taking the pub analogy a bit further

in a pub you sometimes get some regulars who think they own the pub and complain about the type of customers that are now frequenting said pub

the landlord doesnt care as long as someone is buying pints

and in fact if the regulars only buy one pint and make it last all night, he probably values their opinion least

which does make me wonder how korn runs this thing as i dont see many ads that would generate revenue, so does it actually cost him money, or are the ads enough to keep it going ?

ive become a bit reliant on my local and wdnt want it to turn into a wine bar

This could go on forever Colin, but some good points there.

Don't like evil stares from locals, puts you off coming back.

Sorry to butt in but I have a comment.

We use newsgroups at work to convey information around the company. Certain members of the research and development department will target your slightest mistake or incorrect grammar with a barrage of pedantic comments.

However if you walk up to their desk and challenge them, they look down at their shoes, showing them for the meek geeks that they are.

You see over the net or email they are masters of the universe, cocky and arrogant, however in real life they just lack any social skills.

I bet the same thing here, those bullies on this forum, would, I doubt be so gobby if you met them in person.

Yeah thats sort of true but id say that on here they are annoying cunts, but in person they are only cocky and arrogant. Its not as obvious but its still there.

Except one person i met who was far worse in person than they are on the the forum. Quite took me aback but said person can also be nice as pie sometimes.

You were fine and you know this as I already said I got on better with you than I thought I would. There was only one person I met who was a bit off and they had probably just had a bad day. It probably wdnt have happened if I had just stuck to my normal habit of agreeing with whatever bullshit someone says in real life. Never contradict a hot head if you want a quiet life.

I really shdnt have mentioned it.

Bullying IS NOT acceptable in the real world or on the internet ( what is it with people thinking its ok to give someone a load of shit from behind the safety of a keyboard? ' well, its only the internet its not real'... yes it is real & real people are at the end of such attacks)

*snip*

It doesnt matter the venue, bullying is not acceptable.
As for a retaliatory shot across the bows... would it not be more prudent for admin to issue a private warning ( via PM) that such behaviour will result in an immediate ban from the forum?

This is a wonderful theory, but in practice it's monstrously hard to define "bullying" or to enforce any form of punitive system. What may be seen as rambunctiousness and jollity by some may well be seen as a group of chaps bullying someone by others.
