Engine flooded - how do I start it?

Long story short.. I dropped my bike in the wet last night and it flooded the engine. Now it's morning and it still won't start. What can I do to get it started? I don't wanna end up flattening the battery because my dad is down south and wouldn't be able to come get it yet!

If it's flooded bad, take the plug(s) out and spin it over with the throttle wide open.

Then put the plug back in and give it a go, if it's not too bad holding the trottle wide open with the plugs still in may be enough to clear it.

Sounds odd but usual technique is no choke and full throttle until it fires.
I assume you don't mean it got water in the engine (just possible in a deep pool!)
If battery starts going down you might get it going with a bump start.
Ideally find a slope to run it down (doesn't have to be very steep or long) Get it moving with already in 2nd or 3rd gear withclutch in, jump on and then let the clutch out sharp so the engine turns over.
Very knackering if it doesn't work after 2 or 3 goes.

Maybe something else happened like HT lead came off or plugs damaged?
See if you have spark by taking out plug and holding it against the engine.

How embarassing, when I dropped it I hit the engine kill switch . Soon as I sorted that it started with a full throttle turn over. Thanks for the help anyway guys .

Easy mistake to make, I once fell off and managed to switch off my lights whilst departing the bike.

I rode all the way home holding the passing switch.

Fuel tap OFF

drain floar bowls

turn motor over for 10-30 seconds with throttle wide open (will blow all excess petrol up the zorst hopefully)

tap to PRIME or ON (pref prime if youve a vacuum tap)

wait 5 seconds

tap to ON on vacuum taps

now try and start the bugger, you may need full throttle.

Just try bump starting it. I found that after flooding it (Petrol not water ) then putting it into first, getting it moving with my feet and popping out the clutch would suck the petrol out of the cylinders and let it fire up on the next go.

I was always told that the kill switch is for emergencies and you should always use the ignition key to stop the engine.

I didn't press the kill switch on purpose by the way, it was most likely when I was picking it up off the ground. I put it down on the sidestand but it was on a hill and in the wet (pouring with rain). Luckily it fell on the grass so no damage what-so-ever done .

Why can't you turn your engine off when in first gear with the key? I have no problems doing it this way.

When my engine floods I just bump start it, works every time

Ive never understood why people think using your killswitch will break your ecu/cdi. Certainly bump starting bikes can pop your CDI ive had that happen to me 30 miles form home before.

The only detrimental effect ive heard of is wear and tear on the switch to the point it may not function in the 'emergency' when required but I imagine that to be a lot of uses, besides I havent looked at the drawing but it may be that if you break it the bike won't start at all let alone fail to stop

i was under the impresion that with over use it would wear out and you wouldnt be able to start the bike without repairing it.

A dodgy light switch can be lived with for a day or so a kill switch cant.

Its handy as someone said if you're parking on a hill.
If you want to leave the bike in first so it can't roll, you have one hand on the clutch, one on front brake (I mean a steep hill) - so you can kill the engine with your thumb - because you haven't got a free hand to use the key.
