Well as I am now unemployed I have started a claim for JSA!

However I have just been offered a PT job and im not sure to take it or not!!

Its only 15hrs a week and £min wage (what ever that is?)

If I take the Job can I still claim JSA as its not full time (What I need) and can I still get Tax/Rent benifit?

Also as its 15< hrs do I even need to declaire it?

Many thanks, I said ill let him know by friday.

May help, they take a cut out of your wages whatever you earn. If in doubt ring them they will tell you.

If it is under 15 per week and below a certain amount then you can still claim JSA ontop.

I know many people disagree with it but unless your really want to work as a way to get out of the house I'd just claim the JSA and spend your time jobhunting.

The money will work out with little difference but allow you to find a new full time job quicker.

min wage is £5.05 an hour, before tax.

£55 over 25 year old. Doubt you get housing benefit if you working and on JSA. You need income support or incapacity benefit for housing benefit.

Unless there are kids involved, theni am not sure. Only know for single people.

JSA is about £110 a fortnight. You can work up to 16 houra a week but you must declare it. But you get less money from them if you're working AFAIK.

Quote:
Are you:

Under 65 (for men) or under 60 (for women)?
Not working, or working on average less than 16 hours a week?
If YES to both, claim JSA.

Congrats you just fell into the poverty trap , ie it is more beneficial to stay on JSA
or work less hours than it is to go out and work,

but lets see JSA £55/week
15 hours x 5.05 =£75.75 YOU WILL PAY NO TAX since you only pay income tax
when you earn more than 92ish a week(ie the personal allowance limit).Does not
stop the IR taking it though you can and ought to claim it back

Some common misconceptions being bandied about yet again.

Housing benefit is administered by your council, not the DWP, and is totally seperate to JSA. You can still claim housing (and council tax) benefit if you are working, how much you get is worked out on a sliding scale dependent on your income and your circumstances (ie if you have a pertner, kids etc).

Housing benefit is also usually capped so if you are in private rented accommodation even getting full JSA and full housing benefit doesn't necessarily mean all your rent will get paid.

The rules are also extremely complicated if you own your home rather than renting. You can get benefit towards paying your mortgage interest but it's very complicated to claim, there are all sorts of restrictions on it and you don't get very much.

Re your JSA, claim and work is your best bet, especially if you are working part time and only earning the figure that Itchy suggests. When you are registered for JSA you will also get NI credits towards your pension. (Your wage is under the NI threshold so you won't have to pay any) I know it's a long way off for you but a break in your NI conts at this stage may mean you don't qualify for a full pension when you retire.

thats such a bitch I have holes in my NI contributions cus I was way too proud to claim the dole , and as a result kept my pride however if I were to say fail to emigrate I would probably get 5p a week pension when I'm old, AFAIK the dole includes an NI contrib.

which reinforces the actuaries warning ! never save for your retirement as you only get less in the end.

just cus you know others who take the dole and work doesn't make it right you know , and everybody will hate you , esp if you get found out , since magestrates always make them pay back a pittence back (ie 50p a week).

I'd take the job (as long as you wouldn't have to spend to much on comuting)and claim jsa and attempt to claim housing benefit and council tax benefit, while your at it go to the dentist and have a check up and any work needed done and a trip to the optitian too and get your partner to do the same.

Doing the part time work will look better on your c.v than a space of doing nothing at all.

No you dont.

As others have said your probably best off just staying on benefits for a bit and looking for a full time job. I was told that I wasn't entitled to any payable benefits when I got sacked (even though I'd been working for the previous 18 months), but I dont know if that was because I waited 6 months before I claimed.

The benefits system in this country is a joke to be honest. Me and my GF are being evicted next month due to our landlady not paying the mortgage. We went to the council and asked if they could help us with a deposit for somewhere as we have a lot to pay out for and it will be hard to save the amount we need. Because we both work (although my GF is P/T 20hrs a week) we're not entitled to any help from them whatsoever. Bear in mind that my GF is now 6 months pregnant and we literally have nowhere to go if we're evicted without finding somewhere. We'd be better off if one or neither of us worked, and they wonder why so many people in this country are lazy fucking scroungers.

Thats perfectly normal, and a few months back I was informed they had a slightly longer than normal delay. You should hear about that in a month mate.

May be worth just chasing the actual place your going to work to see if they have heard anything. However they won't of and by the time they get an answer from the DVA you will have found out yourself.

Just hang in there mate.
