Baliffs? What can they do?

Not going into too much info, but suffice to say My appeals for a few parking tickets failed!

I recieved a letter from the baliffs on a friday saying I owe X amount and then on the monday they came round to tell me they are taking my stuff this week!

So what can they take?

Can they take anything that I need to make a living from?

eg my pc/car?

Also if I have sold things on ebay but have yet to post them can they take them??

Basically what ever you do, do not let them in to your house! Contrary to popular belief they cannot force entry to it. Some will try little tricks to gain entry like asking to use the phone to call the office.

If you do let them in, they can force entry at a later date to remove items.

I believe typically for parking tickets etc, they will clamp the car.

90% of the time they turn up with a court order, so you DO have to let them in. If you're in doubt, call the police who will assist you.

They can take anything of any value, except basic items needed to living. This includes PC/TV/current car/laptop etc. etc.

Pretty much everything except your cooker, clothes and bed.

They are just doing there job, if you dont fall behind with payments then you will never encounter them.

I guess you think traffic wardens are also scum??

I have had one dealing with a bailiff in my life, and it was a reasonable experience

Basically... we fell behind with a payment for something
The situation got ignored, and before we knew it there was someone at the door
He was late 40's, and quite a nice bloke actually

He looked about, saw our little girl there (she was sick..off school)
He asked us if we had a car
My bloke said yes, we do
"Sorry" said the bloke
"Was that a no"
So we said.."er, no then..no"
And he wrote that down as a no

He saw we didn't have flash things, weren't messing about by not paying this bill on time, and we set up a little agreement to pay in the next month
And he left

He was doing his job.. it was out f ault we hadn't paid the bill on time

I guess you do get some scummy bailiffs that just want their commission, will get into properties however they can etc...

Well im a mobile IT Technician and a web designer/host

So they cant take my server has I host websites from it and also I get my work via email/internet.

My car is used to get to the jobs..

As the cars were scrapped and I moved I recieved no letters about the fines!

When I went to appeal a recent ticket I got the letter from the baliffs. Then two days later they turn up!!

Its not even If Ive said I wont pay it, they have said tuff pay the lot or we taking items and I dont have £800 not being in full time work atm.

Are these debt collectors or bailiff's?

You can stop the Bailiff re-attending your home by making an application to suspend the warrant by completing form N245 (download HERE) it does cost £30 to file though.

You say they've been before have they entered your property?

If not, tell them to leave your property! If they remain, inform them they are trespassing, you will call the police then do so.

I have a nice technics surround stack system £400 worth.

I am planing on doing a BIN on ebay end getting my mate to buy it!!

Ill then tell them the moneys gone on the rent!!!

They are Equity Baliffs and no they havent come in. we live in a shared entrance so they would have to gain access first into the downstairs flat before ours as well..

I have also signed up to an IVA as well, which is ment to stop this action but the baliff said they doubt they do anything.

Move the most valuble items from your house now. Whats not there they cant take.
A friend of mine had this, he collects 'collectables' which mount up to alot. The balifs came round, he refused to let them in.
After that he moved all his items for a few weeks.
When they finally come back, there was nothing to take.

my laptop is going in for repair tom, ill take my pc to my mums along with my fishing tackle and RC cars. also take the 32in tv and that over there.

Ill put the 21" tv in the front and the 14" in the bedroom. Ill use my vcr PC as my main one and setup an old amiga as well.

My daughter can look after the PS2 and I sell the technics on ebay to my mate!

they can take the tvs as Im getting a new one soon.

The dvd player Ill take the power from inside so it dont work. the Server is just a metal case as the outside as fallen off and got gaffer tape over it there is no floppy or cd drives and the remainder of the case dont shut.

The bike is in the garden but its not our garden!
