Contract Phones?

As I am going to university shortly, I will be using my mobile a lot more. I am considering getting a mobile contract, but there is so many to choose from!

Im a little puzzled and require some help finding a suitable one.

Basically I want:

Free minutes
Free txts
A decent phone, say a SE W810 or K800i, D600 etc
No charge for the phone outright
Costs less than £30 a month.

Any help is gratefully appreciated

Have a look at O2's online tariffs. I just changed to O2 from years with Orange and had no problems, customer service has been good too.

If you can cope with keeping the same phone for 18 months then there are some good deals.

O2 Online 200

You get 1mb free WAP downloads per month along with inclusive 3G video calls and inclusive text/multimedia messages as well as anytime voice calls to all networks. I cut my bills from around £50 per month with Orange down to £30 without having to pay extra for texts, WAP and 3G usage.

The o2 offer does sound good, however the idea of a 18month contract is a bit worrying, anybody else on one of these? Or preferably how do you feel at the end?

Try vodafone, they have had lost about £19 million this year due to new buisness interests.

Hell they met my terms when i said they would have to work hard to keep me as a customer.

I get about
250 mins any time any network (they roll over if unused)
1000 free txts
£25 p/m
Also got a top of the range phone free

if they dont offer you a decent package just tell them if they dont better it your going to O2 - simple.

Oh and when they say its an 18 month cotract - tell them you want a 12month contract with the same minuites as the 18month contract or you'll go else where.

Simple fact is that they want you as a customer as there is alot of competition between the big mobile companys.

Have a look round the net for the kind of prices your looking at. they can better them on the phone.

As I got confirmed for uni the other day I went on www.orange.co.uk/students and got myself a free Sony Ericsson W810i, 500 Texts, 50 Anytime mins, 4MB Internet Bundle. For £23 per month. Will do me fine.

What are you lot thinking of the SE W810i? Is it good? Looked good when I looked with free 512MB memory stick, mp3 player, 2 megapixel cam etc.

Be careful though, lots of companies like dial a phone who offer cashback, 50% off, free this blah blah.

What actually happens is you pay full price, then will have to send off a coupon to redeem your money, which if not done by a certain date will become invalid. It's a ballache and not worth it imo.

Go straight to the companies like 02 and Orange directly.

Thats what I have but I wasnt aware a W800 was 3 megapixel till after I got this one.
I had a 750i last year & it took awesome pics, infact it was a really good phone.
The 810 has a 512 memory stick in it so plenty of music & pics can be stored.
My Mrs. got a Nokia 6111 this time, its crap compared to the Sony Ericsson

The K800i is a 3.2mp camera and the pics are very good. it has a "best shot" function and also xenon flash, and the redlight to point at the subject in the dark so you know where your pointing.

One thing I would say regarding any contract with O2.... get the phone online, its only a phone call to cancel when your contract comes to an end, my old phone was from Fones 4 U or somewhere similar, I had to write in & give 30 days notice.
I did what was required, even got a text from O2 accepting the letter.
Then I had a look at my bill online, the twats were only trying to carry it on & charge me for another month !
I phoned customer services & got the runaround by some scouse bitch, she tried to tell me they never got the letter even though I sent it 1st class recorded delivery (has to be signed for) & they sent me the text. She put me on hold ( muted her end) so when I said to the Mrs. that the twats wanted proof of postage she suddenly comes back & says she hadnt said that.
O2 currently owe me approx £50 which I dont expect to get back.
They will get the 18 months out of me then thats it I wont be renewing with them!
